Parking button question. PLEASE advice !!! TY in advance

Hi,I am driving E60 2007 with LCI gear knob. The gear knob is like a joystick, push forward for reverse and pull backward for drive. And when need to stop the car completely, we press the 'P' button on top of the gear knob. Everything looks pretty normal. So here comes my real question:- What if I driving 160km per hour and someone accidentally PRESS the 'P' button? I tried it when i drive slow like 5 - 10km per hour, it drags me back and stopped. I dun dare to try in faster speed. Will it deactivate after certain speed, and if this accident occur will it break the gearbox of something else?That's all my question. Thanks for reading and replying.

I do tried it before but not on BM but company rental car Nissan . I was cruising about 120 then I accidentally hit the gear to "P". The situation is same like emergency break plus the multiple "krak" sound till the car stop. I off and start back the car, everything working fine...

hey, yesterday i tried to press it when my car slowing down. And it comes out with a sentence: GEARBOX IN POSITION, PARKING AT STILL ONLY. something like that, but i really dun dare to try when its high speed. Slowing down speed is around 30km to 20km per hour rate.

I have experienced mine at low speed and when I hit "P", it jerks and stops (park the car). I have also tried pressing the STOP engine button when it's slow moving and it really stopped the car, lol

I push the P button during cruising at 80-90Km/H (actually my son push it once, I tried push it again), i-drive just giving error as GEARBOX IN POSITION, PARKING AT STILL ONLY like what Yelnats81 said. I don't think the BMW Eng stupid enough to setup the system doing emergency break during fast cruising.

BTW, I was on DS more and when I press P, the gear switch back to normal mode instead of parking at DS mode.
