NCH, I share your pain.

I am experiencing the exact same problem as you. My Comfort Access is not sensitive enough and the occasional not able to detect the key inside the cabin.

I have brought my car to Ingress 3 times but they could not diagnose the problem. They said the exact same thing to me as Quill to you : no problem detected. I took delivery of my car last November.

As for the nearness of the remote control working, I believe it was designed for shorter range to prevent mugging. Not sure the exact range is, but 1m or less is my usual working remote range.

I must say that the comfort access would be handy if it's working properly. When I'm carrying my son i don't have to fumble to get my controller.

My next trip to Ingress, I will highlight this thread to them and hopefully they are able to assist me more. Would appreciate it though if you can keep me updated with this problem of yours and I will likewise do so as circumstances render us comrade in arms :D

jazzler, are you related to gilalazz? hehe

The remote control range really sucks. At most of the time I have to stand next to the car for it to work. Like only 30cm. Totally defeats the purpose of remote control.

And you hate it even more when your car is parked outside when it's raining. Normal people would unlock remotely, run to the car, open the door and get inside as quick as possible to not get wet. When our Myvi is unlocked, I can get inside and close the door in under 3 seconds. But for us UDM owners, it might take more than 3 seconds just to unlock the car.

This is what happened today. I had the key fob in my pocket, ran to the car, tried to unlock by pulling the handle instead of pressing the remote button. IT FAILED. So I quickly took out the key fob and pressed the top button. You know it still didn't unlock instantly. I had to press several times for the signal to register. And the situation is only worse if you have passengers waiting for you to unlock the other doors.

It's just small problem but I don't like how it affects our everyday life. Not only Comfort Access doesn't work perfectly, the remote control almost doesn't work normally each time I want to unlock/lock.

A functional remote control is something everyone should take for granted but I don't know how BMW failed to make it right in late 2000's.

Ohh, and today when I was already on the road .. the error message popped up "Remote control not present or faulty. Engine cannot be started." Not happy at all!

I'm gonna bring my car to Ingress instead of Quill this time. I hope they feel my frustration and subsequently eradicate the problem.

Let me know if you get yours fixed too.

How many KMs have you done? I just got rid of the RFTs today and went for Michelin Pilot Sport 3 (upsetting experience at the tyre shop) and now I officially enjoy my Ultimate Driving Machine.

:)
i just reached 2k km.. i "intend" to keep my 323 as stock as possible coz im feeling kinda old and just want a comfortable ride to work.. the RFTS dont bother me that much.. yet..

The Convenient Access remotes do not have a rechargeable battery like the normal remotes and needs to be replaced. It could be that the system is power hungry and the batteries need replacement often.
ouh is it? i was thinking that it would get charged when i insert it..
note to self: start reading the manual

Hi lude,

Ohhh I didn't realize your car was a 323i. If that's the case, you won't complain so much about the RFT. The M-sport cars come with much stiffer suspension that contribute to harsher ride quality.

What kinda rims come with 323i?

Anyway I hope you enjoy your new car. Mine just hit 3000km today

Yes, I read the handbook section on it because I wished I had it in my 2008 unit. :) If you do read it, you'll find that it's called 'Convenient Access', and there are 1 to 2 second delays involved if I recall correctly.

Also elsewhere in the forum you can read that our access systems are high security, with random number codes that you can't duplicate because of the countless combinations. Whereas the run-of-the-mill RF remotes can be scanned from a distance when you use it, duplicated in a jiffy, and your car stolen while you're in the mall.

Does your comfort access always works?

I kena error message like this from time to time. Brought it back to Quill to have it rectified. They found no faults and told me it's normal, I only need to insert the key.

What kinda BS is that, I really hate seeing something like this on a brand new car.

I noticed our 323i only pops out this message if the key fob is not inside the car (even if the key is in the driver's door armrest, and the door is open). But otherwise, the CA works fine.

I got the error message when the key fob was in the car, all the time.

Hi NCH ,

I am having the same problem also .
Same error message when driving .

Same bullshit response from the door handle when the key is in my jeans pocket. Its nnoying . I have to take it (remote) out everytime to get the CA working . Using the remote on the other hand does not work for long range . will send back to SC when i have time . let us know how urs goes .

I changed the battery as a method to troubleshoot but no better .

I think all bmw servicing centre is not up to world class standard still in Malaysia. Just my 2 cents.... haiz....

And ya, the remote control on LCI range is like crap. Pointing it at the rear of the cars seems to have better respond. Previous E46 has a better range compare to the E90.

At first the aircond compressor got funny sound, eventually go off after few months drive... WTH?

Does anyone encounter problems when the engine temp is moderately high, and the fans kick in high speed, i can feel a strong vibration on the steering. And the sounds is quite loud as well.... And it will go off around 5-10mins time.... This happen 4 times already since i got the car early this year.

This msg only will pop out when the FOB needs recharging or kaput..mine works fine even from abit distance..so there must be wrong somewhere..

My E46 330Ci didn't have a problem like this, so I'm not blaming BMW. But I'm not happy with Quill's service attitude.

It's ok if my key fobs/car receiver are faulty, what's NOT ok is their unwillingness to solve problems.

I will give them 1 last chance to fix it. If that fails, I'm escalating this to BMW Malaysia.

morning Bro,
about ur problem i have heard it from my friends too his car 530E60 the function finalist with changing the driver side outter handle.

ur s could be ah?he solve the problem in AB segambut.

SR20

Different service advisors told me it's got something to do with the rear windscreen tinting. Kinda makes sense, as many other people have said the same thing. The 320d courtesy car I'm driving now has no tinted wondows, and the remote control range is awesome like a Myvi or Saga.

I will consider retinting the rear windscreen if BMW can guarantee a fix. FYI I've got vKool 40

Not yet settled. My car is still in the workshop and I told them to take their time. If they insist it's the tinted windowss, they can remove it to show me how it's working properly. But if it still deosn't work perfectly after removal, they'll have to rectify it and pay for my new tinting.

Driver side handle is for comfort access only right? With mine the more control range sucks too.

When was it? I went to pick up my car today.

Left Quill disappointed, because they never rectified the problem. Car pulls to the left while driving regardless or road condition.

I'm so done with Quill. Always over-promise and under-deliver. PISS OFF QUILL!!

We have another fellow forumer by the nick of gameover using a 320d, also car keep pulling to the left. Problem not solved till today..

Damn frustrating ok i've already gone thru 3 visits to solve it:

First visit: Reported alignment problem
Collection: They claimed to have done alignment but no documentation nor any proof. Still pull to the left

Second visit: Complained on alignment problem again
Went to test drive with a mechanic, he acknowledged the problem and suggested to check tyre pressures. went back to Quill to confirm tyre pressures then another test drive. Still pull to the left and they gave me the courtesy car until they fix mine.

Third visit was today. They said they have done alignment again and this time they gave me the measurement printout. Car still frigging pulls to the left!!!!!!!! The same mechanic who acknowledged the problem changed his statement. This time he said it's the road condition that's causing the problem.

I drove on federal highway & NKVE (left, middle & right lanes), whether it's left turn or right turn, IT FRIGGING JUST SHIFTS TO THE LEFT!!! I think it's safe to rule out the road conditions.

The cause can be other things not limited to wheel alignment. So if they do the wheel alignment 1000 times I guess it will be still the same.

Super frustrating!

Hey, do you all try camber adjustment ? althought shifting to left may not have relation to camper. but if camber is out, the alignment may out too.

I used to send my subaru to Auto Pex Car Care in Glenmarie, Ah Sun is the guy to look for :)
