Thanks for the info bro. Managed to sneak away for a few hours to my workshop. They still cant pinpoint the problem but the diagnosis was the burglar alarm is interfering with the sensor/locking switch. Motor/actuator all functioning as per normal separately. They sent the diagnosis to Germany for further consultation. Sounds expensive sia.

I personally feel I just need to temporary switch off the rear bonnet sensor switch (part no. 61310119052) but have no idea where it is.

Do I need to strip the carpeting from the rear bonnet to access the rear bonnet sensor switch? Thank you in advance.

According BMW WDS info, :top:

the boot motor lock, lock switch, boot lock switch, rear boot open switch are all control by the GM5 module. The GM5 module control the central locking (door), boot, fuel filler and also the power windows.

This thread is really useful for rear bonnet problems. Yesterday not satisfied that my workshop can't pinpoint the problem, I went and have another look at the rear bonnet.
I say man! Lo and behold! Found the freaking problem! I was so delighted! GT1 computer, take that! Ha!

Its the wiring harness that's connecting the bonnet with the body of the car. Open the rubber hose that's protecting it and found 3 wires broken. Do a temporary first aid and the rear bonnet sensor is unlit already. Will solder the wires properly later when I have the time. Lucky no need to waste money on the GM5 unit. Expensive sia.

sure you dont have this switch. I dont think bmw would miss out this switch as you need it to open the boot when you are in the car.

Yea! i m positive, mine doesnt have the switch!
i can find the place, but seems like the place for switch is filled with flat plastic (kind of filler)

Probably the previous owner disabled the switch and cover it up with the plastic cover.

The mystery deepens. heh So far I only know of your one case. The rest of the E46 drivers I ask have ler.

Dear Sifus,

Since this tread is about the boot-cover, may I ask about another issue that I have. Whenever I open the boot cover by remote or from inside, the b/cover would bounce up then down. I think the lifter may be kaput. Has anyone experienced this problem and what would be the cost for the replacement or repair. thank you
