Jz tested my e36 318 '97, yup it doesnt unlock whn i shut dwn the engine...and as far as i noe evrything in my car is still stock standard...i even got the standard lock remote...the black one with autobavaria stamped at the back...i guess its the standard one coz my frens says so,but it doesnt work...planning to get it checked out next week....
everything works fine except i cant unlock from the outside of the driver side door but i can lock it...if i need to unlock i have to go to the front passenger door which unlocks all 4 doors including the bonnet....any idea why i cant do it from the driver side?havent got it checked out yet, maybe next week too...just wanted a few opinions...thx..

Your problem is slight different from ficz. ficz cannot open via front and passenger door but can open via boot lock.
Can yours open from the boot lock? Your problem is can open from passenger door but not the driver door. This means that the fuse #7 is OK. The circuit for the front and passenger door to unlock or lock the door goes to the same point of the central locking module. i.e. they are wired in parallel.
Since you are having problem on the driver side, suggest that you concentrate on the driver door. Possibility could be one the switch is faulty in the actuator or the lock mechanism.
Look at the picture below for more detail. (extract from Bentley Service Manual)

Personally, I have never encounter such problem before so I cannot say it does (100%). Sorry.
However, if the brake switch is faulty, there should be some alarm and also the brake does not work when you press the pedal.
btw, nice brake switch.. 2 pins or 4 pins and how much?
