hafeez, there's one small button (wif car bonnet open symbol) on top of the front bonet lever near the kick panel.

Look for it!

ya found it since the day its wondering me.. anyway thanks bro..

There are 4 ways to open the rear boot.

1. use remote key but this feature is disable if the key is in the ignition.
2. use your key to manually open (when remote key is faulty or car battery is weak)
3. use the switch in the car. It located just above the front bonnet open lever.
4. Use the switch located just under the license number plate light. (see below)

Jarance, it seems that the switch at the boot doesn't work all the time for me. If the car was left unlocked for a bit (>15mins), then try to open the boot, the switch doesn't work. Will work if I just turn off the engine then opening the boot with the switch. Is this intended or something wrong with my unit?

The remote and button at the kickpanel/footwell always work. Thanks.

The rear boot switch will only work when the open/close switch is pressed on the central console. It share the same circuit as the door switch.

when the car is in motion, all the doors will automatically locked when it reach a certain speed. It will also lock the boot. The reason is that you dont notice it is because it is located at the back of your car.

Try this 4 tests.

1. Open all doors using using remote key. (press twice on open button). Try to open boot using rear switch.
2. Open all doors using open/close button on central console. Try to open boot using rear switch.
3. Close all doors using open/close button on central console. Try to open boot using rear switch.
4. Drive the car and when all doors are lock, open the driver door using manual lever by pulling twice. Try to open boot using rear switch.

Let me know the result of the 4 tests. :listen:

okay, did the four tests, here are the result

1. from locked car, press unlock once. switch at boot doesn't response
from locked car, unlock all doors. switch at boot works
2. unlock all doors using center console button. switch at boot works
3. lock all doors using center console button. switch at boot doesn't response
4. drive to autolock then only use door lever to exit. switch at boot doesn't response

i think i can see a pattern here and it seems that the non-working bootlid switch is intended. i understand the operation now.

thanks Jarance

Had a similar but separate( does it make sense?! pardon me, heh) incident with my rear bonnet/rear bonnet sensor.

Rear bonnet wont open when all locks are unlocked.
Rear bonnet wont open when all locks are opened.
Rear bonnet only manage to be unlocked with the key.
Rear bonnet sensor display lit up even though rear bonnet is locked.

All inputs and solutions are very much appreciated. Thanks in advance bros. :top:

bro clarify abit please...
1. what is the difference between these two:-
Rear bonnet wont open when all locks are unlocked.
Rear bonnet wont open when all locks are opened.

2 Does this mean that the front bonnet switch or remote key or rear bonnet did not work
Rear bonnet only manage to be unlocked with the key.

3. Most probably you have faulty switch or wiring shorting to ground or water in the switch.
Rear bonnet sensor display lit up even though rear bonnet is locked.

Thanks Uncle Jarance. As usual, the sifu is in the house.

1. My bad. The rear bonnet wont open(while using the rear switch directly below the rear BMW emblem) whether its locked or unlocked. Only using the key by slotting it into the rear bonnet keyhole, will I be able to open the rear bonnet.

2. YES! Very the frustrating. The remote key to open the bonnet failed earlier, but I was able to open the bonnet(using the rear switch) as long as I unlocked all the doors.(using whatever method).

3. My earlier diagnosis too. Which I hope that I am wrong cause its quite difficult and leceh to fix.

I just want the rear bonnet sensor to be fixed so I can feel wind through my hair again. hehe I go DIY my car again. This week no time to send to my mech ah.

P.S> Should not be a faulty switch/lock since I change it(using ori BMW parts) a couple of month's ago.

If you already change item 13 which consist of micro switch and lock, check the alignment again.
Maybe there is a loosen connection somewhere.
When you use the rear open switch, did you hear a "nnngggggergh" sound. There is the sound of the actuator motor.
If there is no sound, you may have a electrical problem.

Thanks for the info bro. Managed to sneak away for a few hours to my workshop. They still cant pinpoint the problem but the diagnosis was the burglar alarm is interfering with the sensor/locking switch. Motor/actuator all functioning as per normal separately. They sent the diagnosis to Germany for further consultation. Sounds expensive sia.

I personally feel I just need to temporary switch off the rear bonnet sensor switch (part no. 61310119052) but have no idea where it is.

Do I need to strip the carpeting from the rear bonnet to access the rear bonnet sensor switch? Thank you in advance.

sure you dont have this switch. I dont think bmw would miss out this switch as you need it to open the boot when you are in the car.
