Help with My E30 M20! The water in my radiator reservoir keep flowing out. Its a continuous leak that makes me have to fill this up with water every day. We're talking at least 1 liter of water.Well, I first suspected it was the cap that was leaking but thats not the case. It seems like ever time I drive my car for an hour, the coolant light will light up. Meaning the fluid level on the reservoir is low. This is a real bummer as I have to keep filling water after every drive.I also noticed that there is a small black hose that run out of the reservoir tank into nothing. My guess is that the hose is meant for discharging water, but is this common. Don't know much about this stuff. Please help, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Get to a workshop soonest possible, and ask them to do a water pressure test. Procedure as such:

Let the engine cool, then remove the radiator cap. Make sure the radiator is filled to the brim with water (including the bleeding nut area). Then they will take a contraption, like a bicycle tyre pump with a pressure gauge attached, and screw it onto the top of the radiator. Pump away till the pressure builds up, and look out for leaks.

Possible culprits. Hose cracked, hose connectors loose, aircon heater leaking (like in my case), water pumps.... or worse case, cracked head gasket!!!

Get it checked soonest possible..... before it gets more expensive.

Looks like you have the coolant level sensor.

if your car no overheating when driving,

please check the coolant level sensor cap for proper tighten.

If the coolant level sensor cap not proper install/loose, cooling circuit pressure will cause the coolant level sensor burst out as well.

Hope this help.

Had the same problem with my old ride.

Could be a blocked hose that prevents the water to circulate properly.
Check thetop water reservoir tank, there should be a small hose than runs and connect between the reservoir tank and radiator ( small hose).

Disconnect the small hose from the radiator, if water is spurting out then, if there's no blockage if not use a wire to poke into the inlet of the radiator.

If that doesn't work best is send to a mechanic and get it checked pronto.

Everyday must top up water huh REDZ4, if you can't find any leak outside check your dipstick and engine oil cap to see if engine oil looks creamy. Could be head gasket gone, warping cylinder head or hairline cracked in cylinder head coolant passage ways.

Thanks you all for your speculating on my E30's problem. I guess that the major part of the overheating and no water in the radiator problem is solved due to a replacement of the hose.
This darn rubber hose was so torn up that everytime I added water it would spit right out. Now, I don't see a leak. Have to keep my fingers crossed and hope for the best.

Also fortunately for me, I replaced my engine mounts before some severe problems arise.

I would like to thank those guys at Optimum for helping me solve this problem quickly. Now my car runs fine expect for some ideling and timing issue. This will need to be sorted out once those guys from Optimum get their machine back.

What can I say about my E30, its a pretty interesting car with lots of quirks. It can be problematic, but I still love the way it can be driven like a $2 dollar hooker. Almost everytime I'm driving this car, I try to push its limits. For such an old car, I'm amazed that it can still take my abuse.

Then I get into the Z4 for some highspeed runs and I feel like I have try and take it easy on this car so some weird reason. Weird...
