Hi guys,Really need your help/opinion what could be wrong with my Business unit. Mine is a e39 525i 2002 local AB specs. When switched on either radio or CD, no sound. Displays at MID all normal. Thought it could be the radio/cassette player roask and did two swap tests of radio/cassette player with 2 members and still no sound. Swap MID unit and still no sound. Then send car to BMW specialist and before diagnostic test could start, sound came on from radio and CD. WOW!! I thought the problem solved but later on, no sound again. Test shown no fault and mechanic could not resolve it. Later on back home when I opened the boot, I discovered water was leaking from the left tail light into the boot area and a pool of water collected under the spare tyre.

oh shit...this is swimming pool issue dy! My suggestion is to remove your rear left taillight and paste the windscreen glue around it at the back of it and also at the rear quarter panel of the chassis where the lamp sits in. This should ensure tight water sealant around it.

Then there's a drain plug underneath the spare wheel. Unplug it and drain the pool of water down through it. Dry up all wet areas and also underneath the rear changer where the cables are connected.

I don't think there's anything wrong with your player or changer for that matter just that it was acting up due to moisture.

buy a can of CRC CO contact cleaner and clean the contact points and try i guess....works well. helped my AUX fan too! AUX fan sometime start, sometimes dont start. used the cleaner to clean the connector contact point, wrap it up nicely to prevent water from going in, so far so good. Got water went in since it's just near the grill....

For water repellant, use WD40 and not contact cleaner.

This morning send my car to seal up the leaks from both tail-lights. Sprayed lots of water after that to ensure no more leak. Now back to the radio/CD player...still no sound. Maybe wait for a couple of days and see what happened.

bro..for faster result, use hair dryer to blow it dry......heheheh ..

Guys, thanks for all the suggestions. When you said spray the connectors with CRC or WD 40, which connectors are you referring to?? Inside the boots, the connectors are the tail-lights and 2 connectors for the CD changer. Any connectors that I have missed out?? Tail-lights are working so I guess no need to spray so leaving the connectors to CD changer. Will do that tomorrow morning and see what is the outcome.

Removed CD changer connector and sprayed with CRC. Switched on radio/CD and still no sound. Any suggestions or audio shop that is well versed with e39 wiring??

Try GLS Auto Accessories located at USJ 7 behind Metro Bus station/Good year court 7. Ah Lek 0123352144 (Not sure if this number is still in use)

ya JArance,
Can use WD40 for water repellant...but i didn't use WD40...i just remove the connector, wipe dry, blow dry and then contact cleaner to clean the contact points.

Bro Herbert,
if your radio no sound, i think if u plug in the diag tool, it can check where the problem is.
If your radio buttons all can work but no sound, maybe the connector behind the player loose connection.
I think can pull out the radio easily, bimmer (mike) showed me before.

Bro, normally e39 comes with an amplifier at the back just beside the cd changer. Maybe that unit has some problem. Chk it out.

Bro not all E39 has the amp that you mentioned. Some are directly connected from the HU to CD changer.

In that case, the HU is powering the speakers..hmmm, as even radio no sound..must be the HU then..I'm suprised there is no amplifier ...

Bro Jaleeks,

I have done that with Mike i.e. pulled out the connector behind the player. Still no sound. Perhaps it could be the connector that is bad. Anyway tomorrow morning I am going to GLS Auto at USJ to check it up.

John,

My e39 business unit does not come with an amp. Said amp is intergrated with player.

I have also swap good working HU (called the MID) with another member and still so sound.

As johnJ mentioned, open the CD changer. There is a amplifier there. maybe there is bad connection.

How do you know that you dont have an amplifier? Just because you dont see it, it does not mean that you dont have it. BMW like to hide the amplifier under the CD changer.:listen:

Since I am going over to GLS Auto tomorrow, I will ask them to check for "hidden amp" or open up the CD changer.
