hi all,

Is it possible to install an AUX input into the stock bmw business radio? The car comes with a cassette head unit and cd changer at trunk....

If it comes with cassette deck head unit, the AUX input is not available. Only head unit with CD can plug-in the AUX input and that also depend on the firmware level.

Some newer cassette player can have aux in function.

To confirm, just press the melody button (beside the clock button) on the radio until you see "Line In".

If dont have the Line In, then cannot plug in the Aux in cable.

Then do you know where to get the aux plug in cable?

Sorry misinformation.. Just check with my HU, the Tone Lin is the Tone Linear. It mean the Bass and treble are reset back to default when OK button is pressed.

When I press the melody button, I got this "speed vol 3". What does that function do?

According to some expert, the aux will work for HU made after 2002

Check your software version of your HU:

1. Turn Radio Off.
2. Turn Radio On.
3. Press and hold the "m" button for about 10 seconds.
4. Press < or > to navigate, you will need to go to the 2nd screen to look for the SW Verison which is in a SV xx-xx xx format.
5. To be Sirius/AUX or XM compatible, the radio must be SW 43 or higher at the last 2/3 digits.
6. Turn radio off to exit.

The MODE button is not a good enough of an indicator to check if a radio is AUX or Sirius compatible. It needs to be manufactured 09/02 or later.

I think it is possible to use the CD Audio In pinout as the aux in.
Using a double poles double throw toggle switch DPDT will allow you to select the audio from your external audio source or CDC.

It should work by tricking the HU that it is playing a CD when the audio is selected to external source.

Just have ensure that the DPDT switch is gold-plated contact type to minimise the signal loss.
