Problem With E36 320i Jap Spec

hi there, I just change my 318 engine with a 320 6 cylinder half cut from japan, the problem now is the engine check light is on and my machine on a limp mode [ only 3rd and 4th gear]. The diagnose indicate speed sensor/pulse generator.....now it took 45 days for the speed sensor to reach here if i order it in Japan, Japan spec gear box no spear parts in Malaysia..[is ti true???] The mech told me he can modify the thing, now come the worst part.... after testing the mod sensor the mech said my gear box ECU da rosk.... hayoooooo, is there any test to verified this claim.. any way to check weather the computer box really rosak or not??? or the mech just main teka teka only taking random shotHELP ANYONE...p/s cannot raya with my E36

yup most of the jatco's has got no spares in Malaysia and you'll need to replace the entire box ...since you're undergoing the conversion i believe the half-cut should provide you a replacement if the box is not working ....

japan spec jatco has got 5 sp if i'm not mistaken .....

why don't you try to unplug your battery terminals and then leave if for a while and re-plug it back ...

i've got a ZF 5sp autobox if you want to consider it ..or even better find a manual box ...

manuals ...ummm not that easy to get ...but you may try out and also it's comes with a cost reaching 4K and above ...

why aren't the chop shop guys replacing your current autobox ..since you're still into your conversion journey ...

try hussling them instead of forking out more moolah bro .... just my 2 cent ...

tried already, but the chop shop have only one bmw half cut, so cannot do anything lah, but luckily i paid only half for the half cut, gonna settle of after everything ok, so i think i still on the wining side.

why not get a 325i ...price wise slightly higher that what you've paid ....

hmm i think ice is right... go all the way to 325, mine coz i bought it cheap... 3.3k plus rear final drive (with disc break and everything) 5.5k should get u a 325 already man.

yup m50b25 ...not so low millage ..mine clocked about 93K if not mistaken ....

i've also seen the jap spec's which clocked more that 100K also ...

sometimes it's merely luck ....

i didnt go to chop shop today coz got lot invatation for open house..

my price 5.5k for 320i -(Millage 111000 km) including item below..

- 4 set door panel with M3 Door Moulding ( door panel with blue coloured material)
- complete M- sport bodypart (front n rear bumper,side skirt,facelift kidney,fog light)
actually i dont know what is the different between m-sport n m3 bodypart
- projector headlamp CCFL
- front n rear bonet,pair of fender
- exhaust system but no muffler
- E36 Side Step with chrome lining
- Arm Rest
- M3 steering wit Airbag (http://www.bmwclubmalaysia.com/forums/attachment.php? attachmentid=10926&d=1253699896)
- rear white lights
- fuel tank
- complete rear axle (disk brake,final drive,)
- complete suspension set front n rear
- side mirror
- dashboard come with airbag (superb condition no scratch at all)
- JVC MD player

fyi...my car made 1993 318 (maual) with M40 engine with standard bodypart.
so i really need opinion to proceed this project..

my mechanic will charge me rm 2k for engine n bodypart transplant and rm1.5k for wiring ...

u can find lot of Jatco 5 speed from chop shop around ...........

my 2 cents is if u converting ur car to 320 , must y choose M42B18 or M44B19 twin cam engine ......Save ur money and yet getting about the same performance like 320..........

arm rest,door moulding,rear white light,m3 steering,projector lamp,m3 body part
almost make me get the engine F.O.C...

one more thing ..pls give me tips what should i check for engine condition ?

wow as if u r buying a whole car, i think it's a good price considering all the parts that go with it but for the wiring hmmm it a little bit high kot, my mech charge mer RM 1300 for the transplant and plus another RM 300 for the wiring....

anyway as ice said... it all pure luck.....

wiring only rm300...!!!

i also asking the mech why wiring so expensive..
they said my card old model 1993 my halfcut maybe 1996/7 so alot of diff
n have to take all old wiring out ..

yes a lot of diff like langit and bumi but u r installing a halfcut complete with wiring what, the diff wont' make any diff maa, just take out all the old wiring and replace it with the half cut one what.... just plug and play. u didn't have to maintain any of the old wiring what and all the bmw esp have a socket in every joint so it won't be sooo difficult maa,

btw your location blacksnowfx, maybe i can do the wiring for u :wink:
