Anyone out there has driven a mid-engined Cayman S before? I need your professional advice since I am seriously interested in this car. What I heard, this car has been named 'World Performance Car' 2006 at the New York International Auto Show. In a line-up including 29 competitors, a jury of 46 trade journalists from all over the world voted in favour of the Porsche, impressed by its perfect combination of outstanding handling, looks and performance. Early sales figures suggest customers share the critic enthusiasm: 6,000 units were sold worldwide in the first four months following the car's launch.

being mid engined rather than rear engined contributed to better balance and weight distribution. It can outhandle a rear engine porsche given the same amount of power. That's why the boxster and the cayman is always equipped with 'lesser' engine compared to their other siblings.

Hey mr.fun_fahrerere....

Hey hope you have No hard feeling from our previous encounter.
Well, wanted to ask why you'd care for a professional advise from us. This is a little club that have very very limited drivers that own porsche and even less members that are professional drivers. So maybe this isn't the best place to get advise... for opinion, yes... I'm sure we have plenty of members that can share their opinion.

My opinion is to look into the MZ4 coupe... Its faster and performance is on par.
I don't care what porsche says about the handling, I can guarantee you that most average drivers like us will probably not reach the limits of the cars capabilities... so why bother buying a car based on what people say. We'll probably wreck one before we can get to the cars limits.

You ought to go out and drive one. I'm sure you can arrange one is the dealership.

No Cayman experience other than sitting in one, but short 987 Boxster S exposure. The experience is surreal! Porsche is the next step for UDM enthusiasts, their slogan rings true, "there is no substitute" :p

Ok, here's the lowdown. Engine noise is awesome. The famous flat-6 wail is there. All I remembered is the tactility of it all, the sensory input is all dialed up. Interior space is good, maybe the headroom in the Cayman is slightly lacking but it feels more spacious than the M Coupe. Body rigidity is obvious, the dash materials could be slightly better, be sure to get the Full leather option. I guess Sport Chrono and PASM is a must too although I really can't say much about the difference in feel in the Sport Chrono Sport mode. Oh and whatever you do, get the manual. There is no point in a tiptronic boxster/cayman. Refer to what I said about the main point of the car being a sensory stimulant. Its all about the feel. Its for this very reason, I'd pick the boxster over the cayman, in the boxster you get even more engine noise.

I disagree, to me the boxster/cayman truly shines at low to medium speeds through a nice empty windy mountain road, the stone walls bouncing back the flat-6 howl, while you work the communicative steering and precise shift linkage. Its not about high speed antics. Ok, the shift linkage is a bit balky, the S2000 and MX-5 being the benchmark, but you get what I mean. ;)

I know a couple of frens who attended the Porsche Experience at SIC a few weeks back... U should have been there then... Can drive most of the porsches including the Cayenne. One commented the Cayman S lacks grunt. I guess that's a common gripe on the cayman. the chassis can handle more but porsche can let the cayman outshines the 911. btw, you can go for the Gemballa cayman if you want more power...

Our friend funfer here is a high flyer (literally) :D

If you want an extended test drive, I recommend the Porsche weekends in europe (part of Porsche Travel Club).

Here's one for the Cayman S:

http://www.porsche.com/usa/eventsandracing/travelclub/porscheweekends/cayman-s-weekendfraenkischeschweiz/

Package includes:
Two-day test drive in a Porsche Cayman S (two persons per vehicle), one night’s accommodation with breakfast, lunch on two days, formal dinner, tour package with route map, information package, Porsche Travel Club tour guide in German and English (other languages also available on request).

Price is a reasonable 810 Euros.

On the subject of power, I must maintain that the Boxster/Cayman doesn't need it to be brilliant. Most folks say that as the chassis is so accomplished/precise, but really drive or ride one and you'll know what I mean ;)

The Verdict on a BMW Z4 M Coupe as written in Car and Driver - A terrific and distinctive two-seat sports car that's the life of the party.. until a Cayman S shows up.

The consensus in the media, is that they 2 are different animals despite their similarities on paper. The M Coupe is a beastly little thing though :p

UDM or Porsche .. Both German made! Anyway, I will still love BMW as they made one of the most advance Fighter Plane before!

All UDM driver/owner, do remember BMW put sky flying tech to road going car and their test ground is with unlimited KM/H

hahahaha.

Have driven the cayman S a few times d. When they first launch last year n recently this year. To me a bit more grunt would be good but thats easily upgraded with the after market software, exhaust n induction system which will bring the 298bhp to 325bhp & an increase 12 of torque. Car handles like a dream & very Planted. Better handling than the 997.
However, i would wait a bit more since Porsche is suppose to come up with the Cayman CS (Club Sports) which will be more track or performance oriented. So lighter Cayman will be in order.
Most of the cars brought in are tiptronic but i thk manual is the best.

Alvin, my TAXI owner has spoken........I am first in line for a ride when u upgrade bro! :)

then after one corner, I take over the wheel HE HE HE but shit must go thru HPC test first! HA HA HA

PORSCHE....your everyday SUPERCAR!

AJ, when this '5-Series Driver' guy asking abt opinion, it not about power all he wanted to know is how is it feel when inside the car, economy, business or first class, do you hear anything rattle or not?, how smooth is it when take-off or landing? how many hours before service or change parts? need to service the car or not, pakai minyak or air? heheheh

His e39 is still virgin la ........ he said this 'I enjoy the feeling of my car when I drive it' . But one thing good is he only use parts tha have the roundel on it even the car shampoo, otherwise he not using or buying it.

Its a porsche. Of course its 1st class. I'm talking from driving point of view. If want comfort keep the E39. Buy a porsche n make sure your drive the hell of it, thats my moto. Hell, i drive all my cars the same on track.
