Hi and dear all,Just want to ask whether my engine got problem or not coz my exhaust got loud popping everytime during downshift & sometimes upshift & after release the throttle....sounds like JGTC car but thats racing car & its different story....I read our N52 engine suppose not to pop or misfire due to modern marvel of engineering today which comes with sensors etc. No error or CEL appears. Btw, I've deleted my resonator replaced with 2.5" SS pipe before connected to performance exhaust. Is there any problem with my engine or exhaust?Appreciate your kind opinion & assistance.Thank you very muchRegards,KolamP

Hi bro i think that popping sound is normal for the release of back pressure once the flow is negatively reversed. No issue with engine should be at all. Like for example: turbos no back pressure is the best, for NA cars usually some back pressure is better as it helps with the power delivery for pickup and acceleration. Just my 2 cents noobie feedback ya....LOL.

Sounds like the DSG "fart" which a lot of people yearn for in the VW's!

If you get a misfire, the CEL will light up and you will feel a sudden loss of power.

Since you deleted your resonator, the pop sound is louder because of that.

Thanks MadZiZ & Mavik for your kind explanation....what a relief hearing that coz I read in e90post our car suppose not to sound like that....no CEL whatsoever until today....

Do standard cars have the pop sound when downshift?

Choq, ur exhaust pop3 or not? hehehe

I believe the BMW Performance Exhaust causes gurgling and popping sound. Seen most of the others on YouTube and they do not. Its pretty common on the BMW one. Go and see on YouTube ...

Bro K ... You need GoPro!

First, start recording on your HP

Next use masking tape and tape your mobile phone to your rear bumper

Then drive around and simulate the sound

Lastly pray that your phone doesn't fly out hahahaha :p

The custom exhaust in my e39 530i has the same sounds.

I see...Did u tune the AFR after done the exhaust? From other views it might be due to rich AFR causing to gurgle or popping sound :)

Ride is tuned by BVO Bernard after exhaust mod.

Yup, this is also what makes this ride different from many others :4:

Then I should keep it as it is....the only worries nowadays is I'm using manual shifting most of the time to hear it & afraid might affect the gearbox in long run heheheh....

Ok bro. Anyway my ride has been converted to stickshift before all these series of mods and tuning. So there may be a slight difference in terms of "car behavior" between auto and stick.
