Dear Sifus,Newbie here wants to learn how to polish using orbital. My questions are;1. What is a good machine for a newbie to start using?2. Where can I get it?3. I read something about a Dual Polisher, can I get it in KL?4. Must I really clay before polishing?5. Due to time constraint, can I work on the car by washing, claying, polishing and waxing each day on different parts? e.g. Today - Car roof, Tomorrow - Bonnet, Next day - Doors.Really appreciate if someone could help me out here. Thanks!

1. What is a good machine for a newbie to start using?
- Bosch GEX125AE is the *normal* orbital that's favoured by local enthusiasts. Cost around RM370 and you can find it in *almost* any hardware store, also selling in ACE Hardware. But you'd need to be aware that not much correction can be done with an orbital machine

2. Where can I get it?
- Answered above.

3. I read something about a Dual Polisher, can I get it in KL?
- Dodo Juice Buff Daddy or DAS-6 is a Dual Action polisher and it's available locally. Cost around RM770. It's more powerful and can do better correction (removing swirls, mild scratches, water marks, etc.) than the Bosch.

4. Must I really clay before polishing?
- Not a 'MUST' every time you want to polish, but it's a good practice to clay the surface when it's rough to remove any embedded contaminant so that you won't pick up any particle with your polishing pad and induce unnecessary scratches while polishing.

5. Due to time constraint, can I work on the car by washing, claying, polishing and waxing each day on different parts? e.g. Today - Car roof, Tomorrow - Bonnet, Next day - Doors.
- No problem. Just remember to wax after finishing each section to protect your hard work.

hi krismas, pertaining to your answers to dual action polisher, what is the tendency that it will burn the paint?

also, i am curious about the pads that i can use for these polishers. can i use pad from meguiars on these (Dodo Juice Buff Daddy or DAS-6)?

With a dual action polisher, the chances of a burn/strike through is very slim, you can say that a DA is *almost* idiot proof.

You can use any pads with a velcro backing on both the Meg's G220 or DJ Buff Daddy/Das-6, including those from Meguiars and Lake Country. But I do suggest you find Lake Country 5.5" or 5.25" pads as they are more suitable for orbital/dual action machine.

If you're from Klang Valley, there's going to be a gathering of detailing enthusiasts this coming Saturday and you're welcome to come over and join us. The place we're meeting would have all the machine mentioned above (and more) and you can have a free hand testing them out for yourself and choose which one suit you better.

Regards.

where will the meeting take place? i am interested to learn more about which DA is suitable.

DA - such as dodojuice Buff daddy is RM 780 , new stock only avail in month(s) time

as for ROB is about 300++ ( but the results is not conclusive)

As for Makita is about 800++

the simple conclusion is ROB cant do any major corrections, such as deeper swirls & so forth - not much help in paint leveling & compounding

Left DJ Buff daddy vs MAKITA

DJ Buff daddy - easy to handle but minimal & longer time & more effort to correct paint, chances are you may want to upgrade to rotary later\
PADS is flat DA pads 6' , if you were to upgrade to Megs pad 7.5" - you need to get a new backing plate 6" that cost around RM 150.
andmost of the time this is use for finishing....

but as for Makita - may takes time to handle but all you need for rest of your life, one time investment - given time you can master the finishing as well & you wont crave for any upgrades - as there is nothing beyond that...hahahahaha

its a very interesting machine & warning you'll get hooked on it

if you interested - i can always help you to acquired

Bro can you tell in a bit more detail pls like how much it cost to have the makita + the backing plate + pads (how many different pads do wee need) + other stuff. At least people like me that want to go into this hobby will know roughly how much to spend/invest on a complete kit for doing corrections/detailing.

Thanks bro
