Plate number issue

Recently i post an advertisement in mudah.com to sell my father' junk car (not running condition) and i received a few calls asking the plate number.Is it save for me to tell them the plate number?Any trick behind the call?They gave me a feeling that they interested the number rather than the car. :bird:
