hi Fellow gurus,Need to seek your advice. Currently considering getting the 525i recond model but confused over the specs and prices. So far, going thru STAR paper to check out the prices and noticed certain jargons. Would appreciate if you guys could give your 2cents ..cheerio :) a) What is the difference between UK specs and Jap specs? . b) Any difference if i get a year 2003 or 2004 or 2005 recond model for that matter? I am quite a tech junkie and really love seeing new technology built into the car :) ie GPS, bluetooth, iDrive, Adaptive headlights, foldable side mirrorsthks much again...cheers,comptechie

Get the cheapest E60 u can find and then MOD / Upgrade it step by step.. More fun that way... price diff between top model and entry can be around RM30K - RM60K

Personally, with that kind of money....I would go for

1. 525 no less
2. 20' rims
3. Titan custom absorbers
4. Superb Sound system
5. Turbo charge or Supercharge it!!

Good luck mate!

Just hang on for a while. BMW is expected to launch their facelift 5 series on Aug 18th. Price of existing cars should go down further. The facelift from what we hear, will not come with the new engines (yet?)

First of all, welcome to the forum.

Of course, the latest iteration of the E60 are the best ones to buy, and yes the LCI (or facelift) version will be out soon in the next couple of months, and the 530i will certainly be equipped with Head Up Display (HUD).

The earlier version of the E60 uses similar double vanos engines found in the older E39 but with 6 speed transmission. IT comes with I-Drive and bluetooth as well. The current version employs the new 6 cylinder valvetronic engines with some minor improvements to the I-Drive system I believe.

In Malaysia, the best value for $$$ is a new E60 523i, in my humble opinion.

If you are looking for second hand, then the 530i is also quite reasonable.

Good luck! :)

A Bundy,
E60 523i, value for money? Sure or not, bro? RM 330k for only 177bhp & 230Nm despite 2497cc?
For 70k less, you could get the Volvo T5 which you know very well what is the power output! Value for money, T5 is the ONE!
(Wait guys, don't kill me...........I know this is the BMW forum)

Hmmm recond Bimmer........ I would be rather careful. There are so many electronics etc. I would be rather worried driving/owning one without proper service coverage or free maintenance. German cars a known for their electronic gremlins that likes to pop up once in a while and they cost a bomb.

You guys rock!

Hey fellow gurus,

thanks very much for your feedbacks..really helps me in my decision! To share a quick story with u guys, i was at Naza Motor Trading today near Kampung Baru and this sales person introduced me to a jap spec 525i highline model It's silver in color aged 2004. That guy is quoting me RM268k o_O
That is kinda pricey right? It doesn't have sun roof but it has a cd changer and the leather is black. He also mentioned that the GPS will not work here as well. Am i taken for a ride here with this price? He mentioned that Naza provides 1 year warranty and they will replace the back windows with white windows to comply with JPJ. How should I negotiate better? please advise.. thanks.

comptechie,

It is more like a limited one year warranty. If I am not wrong, the warranty will only cover the engine and gearbox, others will be on your own. From my experience driving a parallel imported car, the cost of maintenance will be far more higher compare to getting a good demo or used BMW car.

If you ask me, I think you should go for demo car or used car from AB or Sapura Auto. Bear in mind, the Japan BMW does not come with PDC and the radio doesn't work here. Moreover the local BMW windows are tropical climatised and legal here. And the interest is capped at 1.38% per annum. If I am not wrong, a 523i 2006 demo car is priced at RM280K and 525i 2006 at RM340K. I am not sure whether they have a 2005 one or not. You can check with them though.

Do your maths. It may not worth it to get a parallel imported BMW considering all the factors above.

Regards

Try look for a 525i M-Sport version if u really like driving. It feel a lot batter to drive. But if u r hiring a 'driver', juz buy a 523i and it won't go wrong. HAHA :top:

e60 523i is selling RM 300k from Sapure Auto. Call them and check it out. I think it is the pre-register units, year 2006 model.

Hey gurus..

You guys are so right! Seeking your advise, i went over to AB Sg Besi and enquired on their demo unit sets. They were offering 2006 523i units at RM300k ... it basically has all the specs with more like start button and PDC. Only thing missing is a cd changer :( Overall, i test drove the car and i have no complains ... The only thing is the cost. My initial budget was at RM250k. Dunno whether worth the extra RM50k for a small cc car. The AB salesman even advised me to wait till end month since the new facelift is coming out. May get some good deal on the 523i... so i will just wait abit and revisit this month end. Thanks again for all your help guys. Feeling rather anxious...

I almost considered the 523. But the features I get for RM300K + car is kinda appalling. No CD changer, 16in rims which is not attractive in design, 177hp and on and on.

As for the new face lift - RM373K loh !.......the price had gone beyond the reach of many people ! sob sob

Result - Gave it a miss and went for a 3 series instead

sorry to hear that Toffeeman...i just read the papers today too that BMW just launched the facelifted E60 units. And 375k+ is indeed out of reach of many today :(
They say it's a special edition SE with more features..just wait and see what is included. Kinda down caused i expected the announcement to bring down the older gen prices. But looks like their pricing strategy doesn't seem to be so. Darn, am i making the right decision here..sigh.

comptechie,

buy the bmw 525i recond and save the $$$.
better yet join me on the 530i. :) - better specification.
new car way too expensive despite the high spec. not sure if it is worth it.
i think i go silver. already drive black for awhile. white is nice but got a couple at office already.
so how now brown cow?

hi bin bin,

I am still confused over the quality of recon cars :( Still comtemplating or should i wait a little longer ..decisions..decisions

cheers,
comptechie

Hi Comptechie

I am also lookin around for a e60...dont know whether to get the recond or spend more on local used one.

For recond ones, also not sure what is the diff???

Perhaps we should get together to do some research?? Would u care to know each other??

Cheers,
Pete

Peter and Comp

Im also lookin at the E60s and going thru all the specs as much as i can. Yes it can be very confusing.

All the models have their hits and misses. Especially Jap models. Some are original and some come with aftermarket parts. But beware our local dealers will try to make the car look as good as possible to attract ppl like us. Ive already seen so many standard E60s going to Redzone and fitted with M-Tech body parts and rims. Then they put it in the shops again. So i asked about the car. Oh they say its original bodykit and rims from Japan. I just said thank you and left. Price difference....standard 2004 530i RM 269k.......sudah bikin same car RM310k.

So better be careful. Some cars are also used cars from Singapore. But they claim from UK. Lots of ripoff deals so we better do our homework.

Normally some forum guys hang out in my kopitiam here in Puchong. If u guys wann hang out u can come here too.

Hello Adrian & Comptechie

Yes if you guys want to meet up can also to discuss the pros and cons of the recond units.

Where do we go from here?
