Thinking of getting Pirelli Dragon 235/45/17 for my E34. RM580 each in Penang.Read in another thread someone thought they were crap, so i'm thinking twice. Anyone else have experience with this tyre? Any other recommendations for an E34?Currently using 2001 Contis which are about to fall apart! They seem pretty quiet though.thanks

knock knock who's there? do we all know u............pls intro yrself 1st , TQ

hi everyone, it's lawrence. yes, i'm new here. i have a 1989 E34 520 which i have been doing up over the last year. have changed the engine to a toyota supra engine, changed the shocks and brakes, and swapped the rear axle for one from a 525. running very well. still have a lot of little things to fix on it. e.g. half the dashboard lights decide to go off at any time and comes back on when whacked, and the petrol gauge has become erratic.... i've been living in penang for the last 2 years. difficult to find knowledgeable mechanics here. but have seen the postings on some mechanics so will try them out.

Draons are quite noisy.

i am using Goodyear F1 excellent grip wet n dry.

one little problem: the drivers behind you will hate you, the F1s pick up stones

535 uses the direnza and loves it ..

yup ... :D - just bought another set at RM 460 a piece. Use to pay RM 550 a piece :(

Ask TeeJay - he is running the same now ..

Changed to Supra engine, interesting... but why?

Am running on Michelin SP2, inherited with the car when bought. Now the rear is getting pretty thin and started hunting around for new rubbers, and was about the checkout Dragon.

Do you know how much for 18"?

Just to share.... I checked last weekend, 18" Conti CSC2 = RM 1125 a piece... phew!!

sport maxx was is RM580 here and the direzza about RM530. i'm wondering if penang prices are more expensive! 535i are you on the same size?

the woman in the shop convinced me to try out the dragons. supposedly better performance in the wet vs the dunlops and longer lasting. lots of people from work seem to go there so i guess she's quite reliable, and she seems to know her stuff. will give you guys an update how it goes.

as for why a supra engine. the car was quite old anyway (1989) so i wanted to change the engine. my dad had put in a supra engine into his old 732i and it was running really well, so i went to his mechanic and got the same thing done. maybe not everyone's cup of tea, but the supra engine seems to match the car quite well . not much turbo lag and great for overtaking on the motorway.

Oh, I really convinced about Direnzza...

If 535 loves it, I love it..., if he jump..., I jump...muahahaha...

Somemore he just bought another new set...,

Btw bang 535i..mana dapat tu RM460/pc??

I'm running Dragon with size 225/45 R17 on 1995 325i and when it is brand new the wet traction is good. Gives a lot of confidence when i travelling around 130-140kph. Now i think the wear is above 40% and it start to hydroplate when i reach approx 110kph when it is raining heavily.

And the noise level begins to irritate me now too. The dry performance is good and no complain so far.

When i complain to the tyre shop he mentioned to me i'm not the only one that complain. As i'm using 17x8inch rim, this is normal according to him to hydroplate ! I wish he would told me before the purchase :(

Therefore i will for sure look for another brand of tyre when it is time to change ... so that i can have confidence driving during heavy downpour ...

SportMaxx to soft for me - lasted only 2 days (brand new..) before I change it back to Direzza. Side wall marking for Direzza is 93W - similar to Falken hence a stiffer sidewall.

Again - it all depends on ur liking. Some ppl like it a bit soft - for comfort. I prefer harder/firmer ride.

Sorry - I wun touch Dragon or FIRENZA

hi E34,

nice setup. by the way, i'm also thinking of putting 1jz in E34. so far i have a few friend already done for E34 and will like to hear more from you.

Thanks,

am using P. Dragon. 16" about RM430 each.

Ya sligtly noisy. can't compare it with Mic. Energy la cos Dragon is for performance. So far i have no problem with it.

Dragon is last and low quality in Pirreli range. Yes! initial is excellent...after one month it's hell noisy. My fren have premature side wall crack on all four of his Pirreli dragon 225/40/18. Got warranty claim from Pirreli but he exchage to TOYO tyre...excellent tyres for that price .

my 2 sen

been on my dragons for about 60km now, 225/45/17.... no problems with them personally except over the last 2 months as they are pretty worn now and need to be changed....my tyre man who is a Pirelli dealer has warned me about 235's....says that for that size, stay away from Pirelli's as he has had many returns and complaints for this size.....the 225s are OK though....

have been using the dragons since last november. so far still performing well. but haven't done many km on the tires, maybe 10k so far
