Hi Bros,I am embarking on the conversion journey and needs experts' advise on what are the key things to note. Few questions as follow:1) How should the brake reservoir be connected to the master and slave cylinder?2) What are the wear and tear parts that are recommended to be changed out during the conversion given the components are in a disassembled state?3) what are the wiring mods to ensure car can start on neutral and also ensure reverse lights come on when engaged reverse gear? Read some issues on these from other websites4) Key things to take note when the mechanics are doing the fitting? Bleeding of cylinders, gearbox, alignment of clutch, flywheel??5) How did your workshop do your mod for the clutch pedal to fit within your lower dash?Really appreciate some advise. Want to do it nice nice the first and last time :)

Hi Bros,

I am embarking on the conversion journey and needs experts' advise on what are the key things to note. Few questions as follow:

1) How should the brake reservoir be connected to the master and slave cylinder? --- dual connection

2) What are the wear and tear parts that are recommended to be changed out during the conversion given the components are in a disassembled state? -- clutch plate set / bearings ..if you ask me

3) what are the wiring mods to ensure car can start on neutral and also ensure reverse lights come on when engaged reverse gear? Read some issues on these from other websites ...nahh a good foreman would be able to solve this

4) Key things to take note when the mechanics are doing the fitting? Bleeding of cylinders, gearbox, alignment of clutch, flywheel?? none ..a straigh forward fix i would say , but make usre your longshaft is the right one especially the front portion of it

5) How did your workshop do your mod for the clutch pedal to fit within your lower dash? -- straight forward ..there is a rubber seal and upon removing it , you may be able to hook up the clutch pedal ...

Really appreciate some advise. Want to do it nice nice the first and last time :)

listed beside the quotes ...

I thot getrag 220 is a 4 speed manual box? I was told it was a 5 speed manual, thus i assumed it was a getrag240.

thanks iceman 13 for your advice! whats should be the labour cost involved?

Do we need to do any fluid change out or flushing? Was told by the workshop that they will just do fitting of the parts, nothing else.

getrad 220 comes in several variant for it's CC application ..but never heard of getrag 220 with 4 speed ..maybe a google search would do for more details on this...

as for labour it all depends on how intense the job is required and different workshop has got different price tags ...therefore an indicative amount of rm 600 ~ rm1000 would surely likely be the target here

as for fluids it would be better to get those replaced too .... won't cost you that much ...

all the best and keep us update on the progress

Change the gearbox mounting while you're at it. Also don't forget to change the gearbox oil and rear diff oil as well.

Any mechanic who has done manual conversions for E36 would know what to do with all the wiring.

Which workshop will you guys recommend in Johor that has carried out conversion before? I think the current workshop is quoting me way too much for the conversion.

how much is too much ?? may we ask ...as seems like we have indicated the estimated price and you've not listed anything yet here ...pls share .. TQ

oppss...i was quoted $1.8k for the conversion...pure removal and fitment of the parts i bought + brand new hoses and clutch line...based on your estimates, i am more than willing to go to your workshop recommended!!! Can share?

any fellow bros that converted in JB? can recommend your workshop and share the price u paid for labour?

sent my car in today...prop shaft, transmission and gearshift out...tomorrow, manual gearbox will go in and i will have a "new" ride :)

Now going to look for buyer for my auto set (less auto gearbox)...

Rear Differential 4.45
Prop Shaft
Gear Shifter (with brand new selector level switch)
Brake Pedal

Anyone interested?

hi guys, took back my car today :) conversion went smoothly, just that the frequency of having to change gear is quite taxing on my left leg :p

Workout while driving man!

a point to note, do remember to get a new oil seal for the engine if your engine's old (possible leaking which cannot be seen)...also there is this small bearing that goes between the gearbox and clutch, do remember to replace it too.

Also ensure that they tighten up your engine mounting again after all works are done...may reduce unnecessary vibration.
