Just wanted to get some opinions, is it worth while to do a complete overhaul on an old engine or just drop in a 2nd hand engine. Seems like there are plenty of 2nd hand engines out there now and the cost to do a complete overhaul can infact cost as much as a 2nd hand engine. So was just wondering the opinions of fellow forummers on this topic. I guess if u r happy with your current engine then perhaps a complete overhaul is the way to go but if you have a underpowered sloth (eg M20B20, M50B20,etc) then perhaps upgrading to a M20B25 or M50B25 would be the better option. Anyway just wanted to get some opinions.......

Upgrading is good but might incur additional cost and hassle. Must also upgrade braking system, suspension system, etc etc. Be prepared.

Buying a second hand engine might cost you about RM1500 to 1800 depending on the age and type of engine.

It really depend on the type of overhaul. If most of the part are worn out incliding crankshaft, tapper, hydraulic lifter, then it would be advisable to change engine. However, it depend on where you source the engine from..

Top overhaul might range from 800 to 1000. complete overhaul might be more..

If you change engine, you also have to do inspection at JPJ..

if it's a m20 to overhaul, then plonk in a m50.. better, smoother, quieter..
