hi guys,

why swap the engine when the problem is with the gearbox? The gearbox can be reconditioned or replaced easily. Also, it is not too difficult to find original bmw engines for the E28. You uncle may want to give the car away anyway.

thanks for the reply guys :D

my uncle want the same old car he bought 20 years ago feel brand new... im just trying to help him out..

roughly, how much do he have to spend for engine swap? lets say if i got it from halfcut...

sorry, i didnt remember the exact year... ill try to ask my uncle :D

is there any BMW workshop specialist around damansara? maybe i can go there and have a word with em...

You could probably get a new engine via BMW Malaysia - but cost would be extremely high.

If you want the new car feeling, replace all bushes and mountings, regardless of the state they are in with NEW parts. New absorbers, brake hoses, water hoses, etc. Overhaul engine - total stripdown and rebuild - rebore if necessary and use oversized pistons. Replace spark plug cables, relays and fuses. Get new rims and tyres or send existing rims for refurbishment. Clean the carpets and upholstery or replace if really necessary, go leather upholstery if desired. Add soundproofing if you want the car to be quieter. NEW aborbers. New paint job.

Others, feel free to add on to the list.

thanks ichiwan2.

except for the engine, how much will it cost? im familiar with japan/malaysian car costing, but i never survey any european car parts price.

i suppose it wil cost a huge amount of money, since its an old car... the absorbers it self need to import right? is there any bilstein seller here?

You might be surprised with the prices of your car parts. Do not let the workshop buy the parts for you. They will always make some money on top of the cost.

Parts for older bimmers are getting to be harder to come by, but still available. FYI, I bought a set of oversize .010" pistons for well below RM1K.

Check out the prices at the spare parts dealers. They can also advise you on what parts you need to get.
