I have soldering the 2nd connection wire direct to the ballast pin. Use a hot glue gun to covered up the connection area to prevent short circuit.
This is how's it looks when you soldering direct to the pin.

Now I have 1 with connector and 1 with soldering direct

This is the final look with the + - wire to replace the Brown and Grey wire from the
damage ballast.

wei, u want the damage ballast? u can use the wires ma..!

ok, jsen pass me the damage ballast. I will do 1 more for stand by.

Great idea man, then we can save some money for other things, hehe....

Keep it up man!

Donald, you can save even more by just buying the transistors only!!!. The transistor cost about RM1.50 per pcs and will cost you RM3.00 for a inverter.

Total saving=RM77.00...

BTW, the ballast for the fan cost about RM30.00 or less at LowYatt Plaza..

Thanks Jarance, I get my friends to check for me the ballast. If is transistors only, that will be a great saving. :D

Then I guess all the workshop will be out of business, lolx :p

jarance, i have the damaged ballast, dismantled one too.

NOt sure which one is damaged as I don't have a multimeter.

Can you show me which one needs changing? Aiya.. need a solder too. :D

Thanks for the feedback, I didn't know those ballasts actually work! Those type of ballast is actually for CCFL lights for computer... not fan, fan doesn't use ballast. You can get those that comes with twin ccfl so that it can be connected easily. If anyone is looking for those feel free to drop by my IT shop at Low Yat.. 2nd flr Lot 2.17. It costs RM35 & comes with 1 yr wty. The brand is called Sunbeam.

By popular demand.

Most of the time the inverter fail to work because of overload. The overload is usually caused by shorthing of the high tension cable from the inverter to the CCFL. Hence, it is pointless to keep replacing the inverter if the high tension cable is not properly insulated. You can insulate it by using heat shrink tube or use insulation tape.

For those who are interested to repair the inverter, you may need to replace the power transistors as shown.

Tools required:
1. a solder gun
2. desolder or solder sucker
3. basic tool like scredriver, long nose plier and cutter.
4. solder

Note: If you don't have item 2, you can actually use a ballpen as a blowpipe. I usually remove the solder by melting it with the solder and blow away the solder with a blast of air (same way as you would do with a blowpipe shooting a dart). Don't laugh!!! It really worked..

Good Luck..

If the PCB (printed circuit board) is burnt, I sugguest that you buy inverter from Dan..:p
