Gents, just sent car for service 2 days ok, and car is really in tip-top condition. BUT...... I've heard 2 very distinct noises on startup recently, especially in the morning or when the car has cooled down. 1) First, when car starts from "cold", there's this a sound of a pump going over drive? potential oil pump for the enginer oil???? 2) Secondly, there's this sound pretty much like a dynamo. Remember those days when as a kid, our bikes were fitted with a dynamo ligh bump which made a noise everytime you use the bike? Both those sounds will go away once the car warms up or when I've driven it for a couple of minutes. Signs of somthing giving way soon???? Ken.

Good call Pussy,

just got back from a workshop and they reckon it's something to do with the fan belts. Is the tensioner pulley one of a few components tied to it?

What's the average lifespan?

Yeah, it's the pulleys. But what's the average lifespan of these pulleys? Appreciate your comments.

Cheers,
Geo

Gents,

confirmed, it was actually the tensioner bearing. But for peace of mind, Ah-Meng MSpeed suggested changing both. RM120 for the bearing, RM140 for the tensioner pulley.

The old bearings were in bad shape, I compared it with the new one the old one was not "spinning" smoothly, the new one was tighter and alot smoother.

The tensioner pulley was actually fine, so I've kept the old parts in case my pulley really gives problems in the future. Anyways, changed both parts at 64,300km, average life span???

As for oil pump whining. The oil pump is located under the back passenger seats behind the driver side. I've changed them recently because the floater attached to the pump was going crazy giving me erratic gauge reading. Search thread for it, Calyon started the thread.
