I agree fully, have had 2 friends who had major issues with their cars. However audi hasn't reached mainstream, it's still a niche brand in Malaysia.

Bmw on the other hand prides itself as a mainstream luxury brand, it should not be reaching the state of Audi.

My wife drives an Audi, really regret buying that. It's not all about the brand but the damn dealership in Malaysia. Anyway, I used to have good experiences with BMW and BMW Malaysia normally would respond very quickly. Maybe you can give them a call?

I am not sure but the CKD cars seems to have more problems than imported AP cars? I mean, things like air conditioning should be something that's very reliable. How could it fail in just 3-4 years?! Do you normally have the temps at 16c or what's your typical settings?
No, never ever. Usually lowest 19deg. My norm is 19-21degrees. Exactly my point, why should a compressor of a Bmw fail under 4 years and just 45k mileage? It makes me feel that one should never own a Bmw out of BSRI.

Goks. U just have to be patient and push for the best deal possible with BMW.

However if you cannot afford the hassle time wise, then u may consider repairing it outside.

These guys don't really care about you. They are only interested in selling new cars.
Well this is my 1st Bmw. I know it's not cheap to maintain, won't complain. However I don't expect the car quality to be worse off then proton.

By the way some update, as they did diag on the car, they told me the battery is very low and I have to replace else they can't continue. I had no choice to change. Paid 2.2k with labour. However today I opened my booth and it bounced open, the soft open rhythm is gone, just acts like a spring open. I took a video and sent to my service advisor for explanation why? Did they forget to assemble back the booth area after battery change? Or did they damage it?

I used to own a Honda Accord and around 6 years + old, the magnetic coil failed hence had to be replaced. That's not the compressor though so yes, 4 years for a failed compressor is crazy unreliable. I'm not sure if aircond servicing is part of the schedule as service parts? I normally had my temps at 24C - 26C when I drive alone so even my previous E60 was 9 years old, the air conditioner was still alright.

I called the service advisor today given he did not reply to my watsapp video on why the booth soft open doesn't work. Imagine to my horror the sales advisor told me that it was already not working when I brought my car in. I got mad and asked him, if it wasn't, don't u think I would have asked u to fix it? Secondly you called me and asked me to change a 100 other things, never did u mention about the boot Spring failure. How do u explain that? He kept quiet and told me he will speak to his manager. This is getting absurd with Quill. Does anyone know the big boss there?

I actually did that. After my 1st service and 2nd with quill and their refusal to attend to the knocking sound from my steering saying its normal, I did my last one at ingress Puchong. Better service, was treated with more respect.

This time around ingress had a 2 week wait, quill had an immediate slot, since it's an air cond issue, I went back to quill. Now given the mess I am in, I can't change until I have sorted out this.

Talking to a nice supervisor from Quill who is assigned to look at this. Hopefully it's sorted and my faith in Bmw restored.

Just curious, which is the best service center in Klang valley? I know Glenmarie AB isn't good according to most people but what else? My car isn't due for first service yet but I would prefer to go AB tun Razak than back to ingress as its nearer for me.

When i had my E90, back then i used to send it to Sapura auto (now AB tun razak) however most of the service personnel moved to Ingress Damansara and i've switched to Ingress Dsara ever since. Overall no complaints whatsoever from them and they usually do quite a good job, but I also do spend time with them building up a reputation and I find that it helps quite a bit. Whenever possible, try to get the same personnel to service your vehicle it definitely helps to eradicate the mysteries of the "other person" who worked on your vehicle who never does the job properly.

bro...doing diagnostics for a lengthy period of time will drain the battery.I have an e60 and i do my own diagnostics using Carly BMW diagnostics programme from my phone
and am always prompted to have a full battery charge or else to start the engine.Yr batt is only 3.5 yrs old and if it is weak it can be recharged!

And they fu**ed up the boot soft open feature if you ask me and that is really irresponsible of them.It may just need a reset, and not confessing that the damage was inflicted
by them is just not ON.

Thanks Moots. Too late on battery, 2k gone :(. For booth they claimed it was like that when I sent in, which isn't true. So I asked them to check CCTV, either case once the service manager took over from the service advisor, he was decent, nice and understanding. I think they will fix it.

Another update, BMW Malaysia sent me official letter after I wrote to both then and Bmw Germany. They have assigned quill to look into this and provide them with a report. Fingers crossed that BMW will be realistic on this compressor failure and replace it. Let's see how, faith on brand restored or replaced !

Hi, has anyone replaced compressor outside? Any indication how much and who will be the reliable person to do so? Any good mechanics?

Hi Goks, sorry to hear about your problems. I am not sure if this is really true, but I have heard that an a/c compressor carries a separate manufacturer warranty from the car, which is 5 years. My father in law recently (2016) managed to get his 2011 CBU X3 compressor replaced at Ingress Damansara, and it was covered by the warranty. I don't have all the details, but you may want to look into it, if you haven't already.

Thank you. This is good to know. Any chance your father in laws car is still under BSRI?

Hi Goks, his car's BSRI expired in 2014, and he never extended it. This I am sure of.

Hi,

Sorry for overlooking closing the loop on this issue. As you know i wrote to BMW Germany & Malaysia to escalate. They finally asked Quill to send a report. Finally we agreed on a settlement where they will pick up 50% of the cost and free labour. So i ended up paying something like 3K plus. However, then i found out how Quill almost cheated me..

So when they sent me a repair order quote, they insisted i have to replace compressior, condenser and all valves. i was made to believe its BMW instructions are that both compressor and condenser must be replaced at the same time and a bill of $16K with other items. When this became a warranty matter with BMW involved, the Build of materials drastically went down, condenser wasn't changed and only 2 valves replaced when i think originally they asked me to change 8. They insisted they cannot change condenser under warranty as it was still working after their investigation but never gave me an explanation why they tried to force me to change it when i was being asked to pay from my pocket.

This shows really what a bunch of conniving scoundrels these people are, when you car out of warranty, they squeeze you to replace things you dont have to. My disrespect for Quill will never go away, they are liers and tried to cheat me. I just got my compressor fixed, paid the agreed ammount after BMW subsidy and swear never to come back.

The also fixed the boot spring issue FOC and another things i just noticed 2 weeks back is this. as i had lots of outside smell coming in, When i opened the air intake module in Quill the entire protective sponge filter that brings air into the air cond was missing. This was after i left my car in Quill for investigation. Quill told me it wasnt there at all to begin with. As you know i was furious, my car has never been touched by anyone except BMW, just 3.5 years and 0.5 years out of BSRI and you tell me this? They said it could have been sucked out but nothing can be done. I insisted they fix it. AS the smell issue wasnt fixed, i recently got an outside mechanic to open the part up, what i saw was some other material which looked like car insulation or foot mat in bathroom stuffed there and didnt look like what an original BMW part will look like. I should have asked Quill to open up and show me what exactly did they do.

To be honest, for someone who doesn't use the car much, its over 4 years now and 48K KM, i'm actually very disappointed with the quality of the car and the professionalism of the dealers. Having experience BMW Dubai/UAe 1st hand, i can say the customer service is worlds apart! Its sad BMW malaysia isnt doing much to get dealers to buck up. I guess they just dont care since their sales anyways went up 16% in 2016.

I bought from Quill also. The sales went up is my concern of degrading of service level, which mean more cars on the road but service center can't "cook" with them. Hopefully not the same situation as VW.
