im driving a e36 328i, i plan to change some stuffs under the hood (performance). so, ive changed KNN air intake, manifold intake (using the 325i) cause its much bigger. thats all. so, any opinions or suggestions on what to do next? thank you. (;

It all depends on what you want and how deep is your pocket. You need to ask yourself how far you want to go with this cause it's a never ending game. If you're just looking for a slight performance gain then the things you've done is sufficient for the time being.

Next step maybe you can look at doing a manual conversion to fully unleash the potential of the car. If you're hungry for more maybe you can look at installing a US M3 3.2 cams which is plug and play for the 328.

Then if you're willing to go further it will be a 3.0 or 3.2 stroker kit. Alternatively you can opt for the FI route or better yet, go for both! You can also add ITBs from a M3 3.2 evo if you want although this mod will require a little bit more expertise to fit and tune.

This is just some of the mods for the engine. There's still suspension and stopping power you need to consider.

A getrag gearbox should set you back somewhere in the region of 4k-5k. If you're lucky you can get one below 4k but that's rare la. You can save a little on clutch in the future if you get the 325i flywheel and clutch. 328i clutch is around RM1.5k brand new if I'm not mistaken. 325 is half the price.

If you get ZF 5-speed for 328i that'll set you back around RM6k++ with installation probably. ZF one is extremely rare to find in chopshops. Make sure you look for complete sets ya with all the necessary items for the conversion.

This is a very dark road to venture into bro. Once you start you'll never stop. It's very very addictive. Go with the manual conversion first if budget permits. It's the best thing I've ever done for my car. Don't be worried too much about traffic jams and all cause nothing beats the thrill of a manual 328i. :)

ouh, thats cool man. thanks for the advice! (; BMW rules aite? haha. cheers! (;

Enjoy your ride and don't think too much about performance upgrades ... before you know it , you will end up spending money that can easily afford you an M3. Better save the money now and plan your future performance car.

Depends on what you're looking for. Getrag gearboxes can be found in chopshops locally. You can look around in the classified section here as well as they appear from time to time. Else you'll have to go around the chopshops looking for it.

Market price is roughly around 4k to 5k complete. This of course has already passed through a middleman so you might be able to get it for slightly less direct from chopshops.

Installation should take between 1 to 2 days depending on how experienced the mechanic is. Labor charges around RM500, also depending on your relationship with the workshop.

Good luck :)

i did went to 3 chopshops nearby subang airport/jln sg buloh but they dont hv the manual gb. :(
most of them only hv auto gb. can u please recommend the chopshop for me :)

I have an E36 Manual. It feels great driving a manual at times, especially the performance and pickup. However, during office hours jams on the federal highway on working days sometimes I get fed up and tired. Nontheless, good leg exercise. :p

If you consider to convert to a manual gearbox, put in a supersprint or remus exhaust after that and your ready to go to zoom. However, look at your finances first, since the gearbox conversion is expensive 5k++ and also need to include labor.

Well I guess there are both pros and cons for manual. I guess when I'm a bit elder, will have to consider an auto myself. :)

It's not a part that is abundantly available like those japanese gearboxes. So it'll take some time to hunt one. Have to be patient.

Have you tried the one in Jalan Chan Sow Lin? I don't go chopshops myself so I'm not exactly sure where it is but I know some people go there to look for stuff.

Dear Awyeah,
hi, i am a newbie, and just came across this post. I drive an E 36 manual. Would changing the exhaust alone to Supersprint or Remus give me extra power? mine is 1.8 model, and at times i feel it is underpowered. i don't want to do too much to it, no changing engines or such, but wondering how many % extra power i might gain from the exhaust change, and how much it will cost.

Would you be able to let me know?
Many many thanks.

No more than a few horsepowers. You'll need a combination of things to improve on power.

Horsepower doesn't come cheap. :/
