Hi There,My E36 328i Wanted to change the Auto Transmission gear box, anyone have any idea should i using the BMW ori ATF or After market ATF...? If go for after market ATF what grade was it..?

As per manual if your gearbox s GM made it require Dex III so what I saw available is castrol dexron III at ENOS at 1U old wing. Do note dexIII is replaced with dexVI

Bro, how can I know are my gear box is GM make...? And is that mean I can used any after market ATF grade 3 and above...?
Are most of the member using original ATF from BMW or after market ATF...?

And how many of the member will flush the gearbox during the ATF changing...?

drive your car to your mechanic and ask him for the best ATF oil which some uses the ZF Dextron .... as for the gearbox ..ya just need to check your shifting lever ..D,1,2,3,4 for 5sp ..D,1,2,3 for 4sp

possible try to use from BMW ATF ...

scary and sensitive issue, i changed fluid/filters and the gearbox kaput.... now i have a smooth silky box from my halfcut, wana change fluid and filter, but kinda scared to do it............. damn shitty gearbox in the e36 318i

Not to churn anyone off, then i first got my car 8 years back 2nd hand i flushed out the gearbox ATF during a service internal and put in original BMW ATF as per recommended by the previous owner. Gearbox failed me after 8 mths and opted to rebuild the gearbox:102:. Was recommended to put Toyota ATF instead and add in a bottle of Lubeguard Transmission Fluid Protector. Gearbox has been running fine eversince then and that 8 years ago. I do an ATF change every 20000km and always add in LUBEguard.

But honestly... now it really scare me to flush and change my gear box now.....>.<
or should i just change my gearbox fluid without flush it...???

its pretty sceptical, flushing out the oil is always recommended as it throughly cleans the internals of the gearbox, but in doing so, it might cause the oil seals and other rubber parts to give way and spring a leak:46::46::46:. Basically, if your gearbox is running fine, just do a regular change without flushing.

Lemon. my friend was also a 95-96 328. He added in redline addictives and the gearbox went bonkers after that. So please avoid addictives.

Hi,

I just change the ATF oil without flush it, also replace the ATF oil filter, clean up the oil pan and thats it.
Im using Castrol ATF Dextron III. So for so good, now 10Km remaining for next ATF change.
