Dear all...Need your help.My E46 325i engine died. When my car in gear D, and move into gear R. And Push the accelerate pedal. The engine suddenly off.But... When my car in gear D, and change it to N first. Until the engine idle. After that, move it to gear R.The engine not died. What happen with my car?Usually, when the gear at D, i directly move to gear R. And press the accelerate pedal. The car normally. Not died like now.So confuse.

Previously when my car engine died suddenly it was caused by faulty camshaft sensor. Not sure if the problem is same as yours but I think a diagnostic test would be able to provide you an answer.

If camshaft sensor problem.
When we start the engine, it can't on.
In my car, the start is normal.
Only when the gear from D to R, and directly press the accelerate pedal.
The engine died.

But from P to R, the engine not died.
From N to R, the engine not died too.
Just from D to R, the engine died.

Or another way, when from gear D, i press the brake pedal until the engine idle, I immediately moved into gear R.
The engine not died.

The engine died, only when i directly from D to R.
Need to wait until the engine idle first, So the engine not died.
R to D, normal.

klise,

Just to clarify.
But from P to R, the engine not died.
From N to R, the engine not died too.
Just from D to R, the engine died.

How do you managed to go from D to R without going thru the N?

When going from D to N to R, did you have to step on the brake to do it?

Like i said...
I must wait the engine idle first.
Of course, i press the brake pedal first. And then change the gear.
Is true, from D to R, i must pass N first.
But... The Engine is idle or not.

We can see, from car speeding at D, and we press the brake pedal until car stopped.
You can see the rpm indicator.
It will Stabilize the rpm until maybe 700 rpm to 750 rpm.
Before we get the 700 to 750 rpm.
I should not to change it to R.

If from N to R.
The engine has been idle first.
And slide to R.
Engine not died.

You do have a very peculiar and interesting problem.
Never encounter engine dying off when changing gear from drive to neutral and then to reverse in my E46 before.
Sorry cant help you on this..

suggest to scan the car for any error at a reputable workshop for the root cause.

Maybe this trouble, same with previous trouble.
I just get the trouble last night.

My position in gear D.
When i speeding.
I suddenly press the brake pedal, until the car stopped.
After stopped, the engine suddenly died.
Maybe same problem with previous.

Any idea with my problem?

Get your car diagnose. Could your timing of your car is too low? But this is a strange problem where we would like to find out what the solution is.

my guess it could be the brake servo is having a leak or is about time to be replaced? Because everytime u press the pedal the servo takes some vacuum pressure from the engine to power the brakes. Get that checked out before touching the transmission.

Just my 2cents, I could be wrong :)....
