Hello Sifus,

I need help. My car broke down in Segamat because of gearbox problem. My plan is to wait until morning and tow my car to the nearest BMW gearbox specialist.

I need some advice on where to send my car. Any good gearbox specialist in Segamat / Muar / Batu Pahat?

Or should I tow to KL?

*Some info about my car problem: When I shift to D, my car can't move. After tried few times it can move but very heavy. Then, the gearbox warning light turned on. After I turned off and restart the engine, the gearbox warning light turned off. I can reverse my car but can't move forward.

Hello irwanvedder,

It is best for u to tow back ur car to KL by calling ur insurance provider and send it to KL wshop.
This will ease u to visit/check while the repairing works is on going and after it done (warranty).
I assume ur car is e46, as per my experienced to rebuilt the gear box will cost u range RM4-5k. to replace it with re con gear box about RM4k.
i done mine at this wshop at Gombak. Call Ah cheong 0123980978.
U can always ask around to check on the pricing.

If yours is 318 (N42/N46) then you are in luck as vixxx have a gearbox at his place where price is affordable. Best is to tow it back to KL unless you need to have a quick fix,

You didn't say where do you live? Maybe easier if its closer to you, but KL surely have more options I guess. I just passed Segamat about 7pm yesterday, now in Batu Pahat.

bro, get it check in KL if ur in KL. So its easier to monitor. NOrmally yes thats the gearbox problem or the torque converter issue. Get it check like what Shahrezan say earlier on his post, do get a few opinion on it
If u want to check on the price, here is another number 0102212915 raymond. His located at Cheras perdana

Thanks for all the feedback guys. Well, after deep thought, I've made the decision to send my car to KL.

Actually I live in PJ. My car broke down in Segamat while I'm on my way to Terengganu from Batu Pahat for Hari Raya trip.

Just want to share my experience with you guys... After spend a night in Segamat, in the morning I called my insurance company (Etiqa) to arrange for a towing service. Following their policy, they gave FOC for the first 50km and after that they charged RM3 per km. The total kms from Segamat to PJ is 203km. So I ended up paying the towing company RM459 (153km x RM3) for Segamat-PJ towing service + RM27 toll fee. Then, I borrowed my family's car to continue my trip. I have safely arrived in Terengganu & my UDM also safely delivered to my regular workshop in PJ. Tomorrow they'll start to diagnose the problems and I'll monitor from here.

Btw my car is 2003's E46 320i M54. I'll do my research tonight to get some more info & clearer picture about the usual issues related to the AT gearbox. Definitely about the torque converter as what bro sharizat suggested.

Anyway, as for now, I am very relieved that everything are at least going well & in order. Hopefully won't hear "bad news" from the workshop tomorrow.

Hello sifus,

After diagnosed my car, the workshop told me that my torque converter need to be replaced. They quoted me RM2200 for recond OR RM2900 for new original ZF torque converter. Both price including installation.

I need your guys opinion, is the price reasonable?

Tq

ZF has discontinued the ZF5HP torque converter. So the "new" could be a re-manufactured unit by ZF. As for RM2.2k for recond unit including installation, you must ensured that the price also include ATF fluid. Usually when torque converter is replaced, it is normal to also replace the ATF oil pump seal which cost about RM150.00.

Hi apologize for bumping up this thread since it is the closest thread to what I am looking for..

Anyone can recommend a place to buy torque converter for E46 2003 mdl. I am helping out a friend so I am trying to get quotations on the price. Thank
