Hello kind people! My e36 has some problem with its gear box, problem is when i put it into 'D' drive or reverse, it takes a while for the car to actually get into gear and move.. So theres a gap or idling when i put into any gear, when its in motion, when i step onto the gas.. After a while it likes to slip out of gear.. And then back at into gear.. This happens while driving!, and also the car likes to shutdown while driving sometimes ( this was actually the first problem i encounter before the gear problem) but it only happens sometimes.. And i think it has sumthin to do with the battery or sumthin.. I still havent check it out yet.. The MAIN thing is i need to know where is the best garage to send my e36 to, and the most affordable of course no swindling etc. coz im a freelance designer, always busy but no money. Hehe seriously, where can i send my e36 to? And i would be best if the workshop/garage is near kuala lumpur area. Thank you!

bro you could try BG beside federal highway behind motorola / freescale. ask them how many days needed for the job. u could find the contct in vendor area under autoban autoparts. cash only no ccard.

Bone, Sounds like Auto gear box issue. but before that
1) when was the last time you change the gearbox oil?
2) what is the model of your e36 and is it local made or imported model?
3) Do you know the model of your gearbox?

Normally from what you describe generally it sounds like an issue with the torque convertor.
But all these can only be confirm when the gearbox is out.

If your e36 is local, it should be running the GM gearbox. A ball park figure for the repair kit is around the range of 2k++

If you looking around KL area, there are a few mechanics which Otais go to
(in no particular order)
1) WP Auto (cheras) (albert)
2) BM World (Ah Wai) (Cheras)

Both of these are very reputable and if you see their workshop you will understand why.

Cheers

bone ...try to read around ... sometime you got to know ya car first and then only comes to the mechanic ... without knowing ya car could make you running in loops ...

Hope you resolve your issue bro. But do make an intro in the newbie section......thank you.

Normally under pop the hood of the car and somewhere in the engine bay will have markers and stickers. if you see Japanese words then its from Japan. If you see Malaysia or something related to Malaysia then its local unit. else normally its sg or uk model

Hmm care to elaborate further on that statement?
know quite a number of forumers going there. they seem to have good feedback so far.
