Newbie - E36 325i = Need Help

Hi Sifus & frenz,Hi everybody....I am ben from johor. I am planning to take an e36 325i early next week. The car is superb in terms of body, bodykit, paint, interior and generally its a beauty. But there is one problem i notice is that when i put to Reverse gear, it takes few seconds for the gear to engage. But for D its ok and the gear changing is also smooth. And secondly when i tap on accelerator,its drops gear but the power is not so smooth.i really need you guys advise on the gearbox, the power thing and the maintenance of the car. If i have to overhaul the gearbox where to do it in JB and how much it will cost. I asked BM power in permas he told it will cost about RM 8K ( its shocking for me ).Pls advise me genuinely before i take the car, shall i take it or drop it ?Need urgent adviseThanks....

if all else looks good and mechanically sound....take the car and do up the gearbox.old car oledi....sure must repair sumthing wan.try change gb oil first.yrs shud use atf dexron 3.not as expensive as synthetic gb oil.total overhaul shud cost about 5-6 k in batu caves m scope

Hi Ben,

Had similar issue before with my GB on Reverse. As Moots suggested, Try changing the oil and filter 1st and if problem persist, then you should consider overhauling the GB. Did mine 4 mths back for RM4k @ Sys BM Setiawangsa. Comes with 3 mths warranty..
