Dear sifus,I have a mystery which I hope the sifus out there can help to solve. I noticed this when I had my car washed and cleaned.Problem: Water found on the original floor mat (below the 2nd layer 3rd party floor mat) on the front passenger side: Bottom side of the original floor mat was not as wet as the top part of the original floor mat.: 3rd party floor mat was not wet at all, only the original floor mat. This suggests that it's not any water coming from inside of the car (ie air conditioning): Car wash guys did not spray any water under the car.Any idea what could have caused it?Appreciate your Sherlock Holmes intelligence here... thanks!

aircond water clogged up.
Below the glovebox, you will find a rubber hose that connects to the firewall. Find a way to remove that hose and then use a wire to poke inside the hose to clean up the hose (both sides, firewall side and dash side). Then plug it back in. Should be okay then.

Hi Affan66,

Thanks for the guidance.. but do you mind showing me how the hose looks like and which one is the firewall?

If it's the air condition water, then how could the top layer of the 3rd party floor mat be dry and only the original floor mat under it wet?

on the E90 not sure lah... can E90 owners show where it is..
it's below the glovebox, between the underdash and the firewall.

the water somehow drips to the lowest layer. That's why top mat is dry.

Hi affan66,

I have the same problem for my E90 but it happen at the driver Seat and also driver back seat. The original floor mat is wet. I just notice it today. Do you think it is because of the aircond water or rain? Because it was raining when I was driving and had my car wash this morning.

Need your expertise to figure the cause as well... Thanks

Hi beemerx,

Is your floor mat still wet??

Hi beemerx,

Is your floor mat still wet??

Hi Arizaladam,

My floor mat is drying up now. I just recalled that the actual floor carpet was soaking wet as well... Now I've left the floor mats (both original & 3rd party) in the boot so I can see if air-conditioning water is dripping down or if water is getting into the car when its driven in the rain.

I'd rather it be the air-conditioning water than rain water as if its rain water, the exterior of the under carriage must be damaged causing water to be able to sip into the car. But I doubt that as well cause if water can sip into the car that way, it should be able to also drain out the same way thus not accumalating on the car carpet flooring & floor mat.

It could b the doors vapour barrier. My E90 was once having this problem. There is a sponge or plastic-like material inside the door (behind the leather cover) to separate the water coming in from the windows outside the car. Tat piece needs to b glued to the door frame. Over time if the vapour barrier sticks out, water will rush in from thr to the floor mat. No harm getting it check at any accessories shop who knows how to open E90's door leather cover.

Check your windscreen bro ...dont be surprise if its coming in from there .... tht is wht usually happens if floor mat is wet ...

I believe now the water is coming thru frm the bottom of the car. The floor mat was dry before I started to drive in the rain. After a short drive of less than 5km, I noticed that the floor mat became wet!

What could be damaged that causes water to come in like that??

u can test it at home by using water hose on all 4 doors. If, water goes in means then probably not from underneath the car. It would b a terrible damage if water goes into the car from the underneath.

Check & clean the rubber strip attached underneath the door. Rubber strip could be dirty (clogged with dirt) hence not water tight.

I tried to simulate rain conditions as follows a while ago.

Spraying water
1: all over the wheel arch of the driver passenger side.
2: underneath the car chassis of the driver passenger side.
3: on the windscreen side of the driver passenger side.
4: along the door, bonnet and wheel gaps.

And guess what?? The floor mat is dry as Sahara!! Now this has become a full blown mystery.

Which brings us back to cloged air-conditioning hoses in the car. Is there some running underneath the flooring of the passengee side which could be leaking due to cloging and happens only during cold rainy seasons?

Im also got same problem with my e39. i suspected my wheel arc as the plastic cover torn apart. Still searching the cause and definitely try to check the air conditioning also....thanks.

Have made an appt tomorrow to have it checked in AB Glenmarie where I purchased my UDM frm. Let's see what they discover.

hiho....updates....

My rear passenger leaking solved due to door clip & changed the 'gam hitam' (what we called this? Blank suddenly....tiu) inside the door.

Im suspected my co-pilot leakage is bcoz of wheel arch cover......becoz today my poket robek changing the air compressor & the checkup & testing was done at naidu........... :deal::deal:

Just wanted to share my experience.

As I had the same problem after changing my floor mats to rubber ones from BMW (i.e. my front passenger cabin floor were wet)
Water would accumulate under the rubber floor mats where were very odd.

So what I did was to concentrate my water on the window on the front passenger door.

As per cslau, what I noticed was that there water was flowing out at the bottom of the door between the metal door and the internal door panel.
Upon removing the door panel today at Quill, what they've found was that there is an internal lining (in grey that's glued to the inside of the metal door), the bottom was not sealed tight, hence water was flowing through.

They've just had it resealed properly.

Fingers crossed. Will keep have it monitored over the next several days.

gehrenti problem solved  but i guess it might cost u a bomb for getting it sealed at quill. These vitamin M suxkerz :argh: but no worries, as long as problem solved

bro .. coming into my 2nd month of using the car ;)
new to the club and to the car.
still under warranty

the ridiculous part is this is a NEW car!!!

:afraid: NEW CAR? alredi facing this problem?
u must have got ur UDM tinted rite. According to some specialists, if u havent got the door panel removed, the glue will last at least 4-5 years. The only chance tat the door panel being removed for a new car is tinting. So guys, gotta giv 100% observation when ppl removing ur door panel
