my air cond got chirping sound! wasup with that! seems like its coming from the center blowers,, ayone knws what the problem?

Hey Guru,

I have a similar problem especially when the radio is off and I am idling at traffic lights. There's a little "squeaking"/"Whistling" sound. I think it is normal and I suspect it's just the sound of the gas circulating round the vents?

Can anyone verify this?

guess i'm not alone!

but i cant accept my 200k car got this kind of noises when my proton never had it!

could it be that all e46 - UK spec has this problem?
guru - is ur's a UK spec? is the a/c cold enough, during the afternoon?

Hey Bimmer_Man,

am driving local CKD 325i. During a noon time drive around time, I am usually running on level 3 if not level 2 air-condition level. Of course nothing compared to Proton Air-Con. Even at the level 1 (low fan) u can freeze your butt in the car...

Try switching from level 1 to level 2 and so on. if the problem persist...i don't know...if the sound is gone....Air cond blower larr....had this on mine too...

mine south african spec.. the a/c i friggin cold.. i normally have it on 21*C lowest blower.

but sometimes got baby birds chirping inside....

how to fix this does anyone know?

got burung sound on my ride too....sometimes only.

i normally on level 1, 20Celsius.....

318i, CKD Y2K

this chirping sound is very very normal in e46s. the blower is showing signs of aging. i also sont understand why wira blower dont sound like that after 5 years, a bimmer blower would.

worse case scenario changing the blower will set you back by as much as 1k (left and right). The whole dashboard has to be taken out just to change this blower. If you have seen them taking out the dashboard u would know how tedious it is. while they are at it, you should ask them to check or change other things that involves taking out the dash.

i drove around with the sound with my old car for about 9 months. the sound is not detrimental to the car. It just irritates the sh!t out of you. and the thought of spending 1.2k to get rid of it dont help.

try not to park your car in the sun so much. should help prolong the blowers lifespan... among others

meanwhile, if the chirping is new, it should only sound at 1 particular fan speed. increasing or decreasing it would make it go away.

it's a jungle in there!

thanks 830 - thats what my mech told me also. At that point, he showed me a e46 dashboard removed. very very tedious and messy. the amount of dust and etc etc..... heeee

well, there's no choice but to live with it - till the actual day comes :-(

keep the car out of the hot sun - is hard. i have an open car park in the office and the best part - the car is black!

thanks again 830....

exactly the same with my E46 318 i 2.0 CKD too ...

last time a fren of mine which is driving a Kancil laugh at me when he heard the sound of the air-con .. n crictics me that pay 200k for this kind of air-con ...

Mine E46 320i UK spec..owez keep it on a 16 celsius..level 2 or 3 in the afternoon but at nite will put it at level 1.(my car is black colour)..
My prob is, i can be smell a diesel smoke from inside my car if im behind a lorry.someties motorbike or if i pass thru a grass cutter..what should i do??

Try changing your filter. Apparently for all E46's, they are using a microfilter which costs about RM$100+ to replace, not as good as the Carbon filter which costs about RM$400+.

E46 2.2,

not sure where the Microfilter is located, but was told by A.B that they are using a "not so good" version costing approx RM100+. This is also the microfilter that AB changes every single time you send you car for Oil Change. AB says that an alternative is the Carbon Microfilter and I have seen someone on this forum mention that it is a much superior filter, gets rid of foul smells from outside the car very effectively.

check your recycle setting.. the button with the 'a' on it.. with the light in 'off' position.. press 3 times till the light move to the right side of the button.. then you're recycling air inside and no more smoke smell.
