My axle kaput?

Guys, I always hear stone chip sound at the rear of my wheel (imagine going over a new tar road) sound of stone chipping and hitting the under carriage, but only 1 or 2 stone chip sound once in a while. My mechanic say the axle kaput already and no point changing the axle oil coz it wont help. he say not serious and no need to change first. he say the axle cost 1K+. Anyone have similar experience?

i think i have the same problem sound like klil klok but not all the time, r u sure it is axle or the drive shaft.? whick part of the axle there r some many link and arm.??

but the sound from rear, i thought drive shaft is front? rear also got drive shaft?
