Hello, welcome to the forum :)

Well I'm not sure why but since you said the car feels underpower, then it might be your spark plug. It could have collected a lot of carbon. But there's a sign when you have a spark plug problem which I think is you fuel consumption getting higher. It could also be the clutch. What's the mileage of your car by the way?

Yeah that's already very high... There are a lot of possibilities and hard to predict which part is wrong but also could be your fuel pump too. I recommend you to get to a workshop that you can trust. If it's a gearbox or clutch problem, you might have already noticed the symptoms such as jerky shifting and such.

Anyways, good luck mate :)

thanks for reply..

like u said, i can feel the jerky shifting when i drive my car.. and i feel like the gear cannot change to fourth gear..
is that maybe gearbox symptom or problem?

If so then that's already a gearbox problem mate :) Another one is when you stop, the car jerk forward a bit. If you experience these then your gearbox is at the end of its life. It is highly recommended to go to a trusted workshop or service center for further inspection.

Anyway, is that your E36 in your avatar? It looks beautiful!

@viknes
my car is E36 318i M43 engine.

after i went to 2-3 workshops, mechanics told me that not my gearbox problem.. i already changed fuel filter, fuel pump, spark plugs.. my car show improvement but they said my AFM got problem and need to change it.

a new unit of original AFM is RM2,300. is it true?
by the way, i found the aftermarket Z3 AFM for only RM800. can i buy this one?

one more, i went to half-cut and found they sell complete half-cut with engine M44 1.9cc for E36 from japan. price RM6000. is that worth if i buy this one?

hope u guys can give the best opinion. thanks.

Yes, if you want to upgrade from 318i to 318iS, M44 is way to go for your M43. :)

And yes, changing the AFM will improve your car feel.

Did you plug in to MODIC to check for any fault code?

thank you for your fast respond..
i already send to the workshop to check with the computer (i'm not sure that is MODIC or not),
and they already reset/delete any fault code appear but i still can feel the problem..

Ezarin, the AFM on M43 is serviceable, try to clean it rather than jumping to the conclusion of getting a brand new/ recond unit.

wow lotsa gearbox dealers in the house lately ....

ezarin glad to hear that you've done some sort of improvement towards ya ride ...you may pm "kacman" which is also from kuantan and quite a knowledgable person when it comes to an e36 ...he own one too ....

as russie mentioned the AFM is servicealbe and maybe you can try driving you car here to KL and let sir jarance do your AFM for you ... some cold chilled ones will do ....

wow 9K for a G-box ...

Bro, use RON97 and see the difference....if performance still slack, consider those options!

Is the AFM the mass airflow sensor (MAF)? If so, then yes, try cleaning it and checking your spark plugs before making more serious financial investment lol
