To be honest, I wanted to post , in chronological order , the things that I've done to Duchess . I guess however, I have more pressing issues to address now and was wondering if anyone has a goddamn clue as to what is wrong .

My car has developed some sort of clunking noise when moving in a straight line , most noticeable at 20km/h , which comes predominantly from the front left. I would also describe it as sort of a muffled crunching noise . It doesn't happen every rotation, maybe 2 or 3 out of 10 times around .Doesn't matter the road condition, sound is still present even on smooth tarmac. The sound only appears on straights but not when negotiating a high speed bank (highway) . Cannot be felt through steering wheel, but is detectable ,however minutely , through the pedals.

The noise either disappears at greater speeds or is inaudible due to the other noises around but it hasn't seem to affect the car in anyway (as yet) accept that it is annoying as heck.

The noise is some what intermittent, mostly only after car has warmed up/done some driving. The sound can also be heard from front left wheel (at least what i think is the front left) on full steering lock, mostly on differential inclination between both wheels and the car in-motion. Turning steering wheel left-to-right full lock when stationary does not yield any sounds and shows steering function is fine (refreshed power steering fluids etc and 2nd hand steering rack have been installed).

Initially thought it was sway-bar endlinks that might have been the issue , but after a front axle refresh ; replaced control arms, swaybar bushings , swaybar endlinks, tie rod ends , the sound is still present. Currently still short of changing of wheel hub bearings , which is going to be done in the next couple of weeks.

My current train of thought , and whatever i've read on the other forums : Since it only occurs when car is in motion (rotational) in straight line, it is most likely wheel hub bearings on the way out since the steering rack and other suspension elements do does not facilitate rotational movement, only up and down and left to right.

I think it could be the wheel hub bearings, but I could be wrong .I haven't removed the wheels to spin the hub assembly to check for any noises , got to do that soon. In the mean time, Any ideas ?

Additional bits of info : Car rides on blistien B8s and H&R springs that were put in in Feb.

UPDATE : Raised the car can spun the wheels, and definitely sounds like the wheel bearings are worn.I've attached a youtube link > https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VLZkewH5dGM , sounds pretty much like that . Fortunately, no free play in 3-9 o'clock or 6-12 o clock. Picking up new bearings tomorrow and swapping them over the weekend , hopefully. Fingers crossed!

UPDATE 2 : Wheel bearings have been change (probably going to be a story on this, sigh), yet that goddamn clunk still persist. Top mounts? Brake Pad play?

UPDATE 3 : Blistien B8s were making the clunking noise. Read on a different forum , lubing it will make the noise go away. Went to pick up some WD-40 equivalent, gave the strut rod a good spray, took it out for a drive, resprayed and the noise is gone (for now at least) , fingers crossed. Thanks to Anakin for the heads up

i would jack the LH front and rotate the wheels to chk for the noise and remove the wheel to inspect.front wheel bearings are quite a simple DIY job....
don't delay the fix.the car is talking to you...

Hey Dengerzone...according to Vixx Customs...brand new B8 sometimes make noise too...

Just did that , and it does sound that my wheel hub bearings are worn. Fortunately there free-play in any direction, which i suppose is a good thing.

Yeah, he has mention that to me before, but since it happens even on smooth roads, i feel that it's an unlikely culprit. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Have you inspected the tyres, age, thread pattern, thread ware or are they round?
Yup, Checked it, and seem fine.

Right, so , the front 2 wheel hub bearings have been changed. Ride is quieter without a doubt ( wheel bearings were in need of changing ) , but that damn clunk is still there.

Possibly top mounts worn ? Free play in brake pads? urgh :motz:

Problem solved. Anakin was right, Blistein B8s were making the clunk. TBH very surprised . Just bought WD-40 equivalent, gave the strut rods a good spray, took the car out for a spin, repeat and the noise is gone (for now at least).
