MINIs, particularly the S, are destined to hold its value much better than others. Nothing else on the market right now comes close to the MINI's combination of performance (a real manual!), looks, build quality, prestige and percieved heritage.
If the Swift GTI makes it to our shores around the 100k mark however, my view is that the above is going to change forever.
I can't blame the dealers for opening at those prices lah...cari makan only what. I'm sure they wish they didn't have to sell to well-informed enthusiasts but just to the image-conscious moneyed folk who should know better.
After all, there are far worse examples in the market, like the year 2000 Celica 6 spds opening at RM128-130k. Really, that rebodied Altis shouldn't be worth more than RM110k, but hey, people are still buying them in droves.
