KUALA LUMPUR 22 April – Setujukah anda jika kereta yang sudah berusia 15 tahun dilupuskan dan tidak dibenarkan berada di atas jalan raya di negara ini.Selain mengelakkan kenderaan-kenderaan ‘tua’ terus beroperasi, ia juga mampu merancakkan perniagaan kereta baru, terutamanya kereta-kereta nasional.Persekutuan Persatuan Syarikat Kereta dan Kredit Malaysia (FMCCAM) ketika mencadangkannya berkata, Proton Holdings Bhd. (Proton) perlu diberi tanggungjawab untuk melakukan kerja-kerja pelupusan tersebut.Setiausaha Agungnya, Khoo Kah Jin berkata: ‘‘Kemungkinan pihak Proton boleh memberi baucar sebanyak RM5,000 kepada pemilik kenderaan bagi membolehkan kereta mereka dilupuskan.‘‘Proton perlu mewujudkan satu syarat bagi membolehkan baucar sebanyak RM5,000 itu digunakan untuk membayar wang pendahuluan bagi membeli kereta nasional.’’Kah Jin berkata demikian kepada pemberita sebelum mempengerusikan Mesyuarat Agung Tahunan Persatuan Syarikat Kereta dan Kredit Malaysia Kuala Lumpur dan Selangor (KLSCDCCA) di sini, hari ini.Beliau yang juga Presiden KLSCDCCA berkata, pihaknya yakin cadangan itu secara tidak langsung akan melariskan kereta Proton.‘‘Kini apa yang kita lihat jualan kereta Proton semakin merosot dan terdapat banyak lambakan dan ini menyebabkan Proton mengalami kerugian.‘‘Daripada kita membiarkan Proton mengalami kerugian, lebih baik kita berbuat sesuatu untuk menyelamatkan kereta nasional kita,’’ ujarnya.Mengenai cadangan itu, Kah Jin memberitahu, pihaknya telah membincangkan perkara tersebut dengan Proton pada November tahun lalu.‘‘Saya difahamkan pihak Proton telah membawa perkara ini kepada perhatian kerajaan tetapi pihak kami sehingga kini masih belum mendapat apa-apa perkembangan mengenainya,’’ jelas beliau.Sementara itu, Kah Jin berkata, ketika ini terdapat kira-kira 60,000 kereta murah terpakai di negara ini dengan anggaran nilai berjumlah lebih RM1.2 juta.“Perangkaan ini berdasarkan rekod ahli-ahli FMCCAM seramai 2,000 orang. If anything needs to be "dilupuskan" it's the 1st National Car project. In an era of open competition and continous development, Proton has become almost non-relevant and have dragged the national automotive industry into the same ditch. For crying out loud, 20 plus years of hiding under mummy's skirt and if they still need pseudo-protection steps like this to survive, please do all of us a favour and take a hike! We've been paying and victimised for their shortcomings for way too long - both the consumer and the automotive industry at large.

BTW, I wonder how most owners with 15 year old rides worth 10 times the compensation amount will have to say about this nonsense! Why should they be made to suffer if the morons at Proton can't produce decent cars consistently and shift enough cars out of their stockpile to survive ?

with sales dropiing like birdpoo, they're trying to find all ways to boost sales. not only sales of proton, but to support the 3rd party manufacturers and suppliers. after 20 years of free riding and supplying crap stuff, there's suddenly no demand.

problem is, the biggest losers are the 'rakyat'. paying for everything in blood, sweat and tears. but to scrap 15 yr old cars is nonsense. they should instead create a higher tax structure for cars over a certain age and roadworthiness. a 15 yr old bmw might run much better than a 5 yr old plotong with a smoky engine etc etc.

What stupid nonsense... I second or third the motion to shove this piece of junk idea up the place where the sun don't shine.

My 23 year old 7er has been utterly reliable in the past few years that I've owned it... Just put petrol, run and service at regular intervals. Did i mention that it has covered 300,000 miles or 500,000 kms.. Everything still runs as it should at definitely can outrun any Proton anyday!!

More reliable than my Iswara, Wira and Perdana all put together... Just sell off the factory to someone who can make the most out it instead of being run by half past six monkeys!
