Somebody ask me whether blue LED are brighter than yellow/ I thought it might be appropiate that it is transferred here..J, I seem to recall u saying dat d blue lite LEDs hv r briter light compared to d amber-yellow ones. Izzat true? blink.gifyup, that is true if you want to compare. LED that are usually termed as ultra bright and the normal type..The normal LED when they were first produced come in red, green and yellow.. Thoose are relatively cheap (cost about 10 cents to 20 cents depending on the size)However due to the technology advancement, LED come in all type. The newer generation are clasiified as Ultra bright and super ultra bright.. Thoose are the one you see nowadays on your handphones.. Most of them come in blue (like the Nokia HP - first one to use and later many follow suit) and recently they come in white (with a tint of blue)... This type of LED are generally more expensive. They can be priced from RM1.00 to about RM20.00. depending on the design and brightness.. Nowadays, they come in all sort of colour as well red, blue, green, yellow..etc.. you can see them being use in the traffic light and cars as well... They are expensive in the initial stage but the saving in the labour cost of replacing them is termendous...Last year, a super ultra bright LED was released in the market and they are about 10 to 20 times more brighter than the ultra bright. The code name for the LED is lumiled.. They cost a bomb.... just basic led mounted on heat sink cost about RM50... I saw a guy with a torchlight that use this technology at the last night TT. (cool gadget to have) Heard is was RM300 plus for a piece but somebody say there are imitation going for about RM60.. More expensive than a maglite torch...very soon you will see some car will use this lumiled (codename luxeoun) for headlight.. vw is already testing it...Now coming to your question... ultra bright blue is definitely brighter than the normal yellow LED. In term of colour spectrum and penetration, yellow beat blue hand down for the same brightness.. That why you never see blue in the traffic light.. btw brightness or illuminance is measure in candle light or cdl or lux... (not the soap OK)... some people use K or kelvin after Lord Byron Kelvin. (english scientist - same gang as isaac newton)
