Hi guys,my remote for 1996 E 38 konked out recently. My mechanic ruled out battery replacement as everything is kaputt. He suggested a new remote key. Somebody here said AB can do it for RM 1200. Any feedback ? now I open/lock the car manually.Thanks.

First of all, check whether any lights blinking or not when u pressed the buttons. Then if none, change the battery, and at the same time clean all the contact points so that u wont have to open the remote key many times. if there any blinking after u have done the previous step, try to reset the system. Follow the next step for the resetting the remote key :

1) Get in and close all doors.
2) Turn on the ignition to 1 and turn off within 5 seconds
3) Remove the key (do not keep it in the ignition as someone suggested).
4) Hold the key up near your left shoulder (this is so it is closer to the remote reciever antenna - someone else suggested this as well)
5) Hold down the unlock button (which is button 1 on my key) and press the lock button 3 times (center button on my key). Release the unlock button and the doors lock which confirms the operation.

If this process is failed, or it works for a day or less only, then u'll be facing the same problem like mine for the past one month.

Somebody in mudah quoted me a full set of key will be RM800+ at Kota Damansara. Hate to invest that much so until now still trying to rectify what is the actual fault.

I did get a new key for my e38 1997 from Ingress which cost me about RM900.00.

BimmerE38,

Rm900 inclusive of shipping cost?

It's from Ingress (BMW Dealers at Penchala), I had to provide them my registration card and NRIC to prove ownership. They will take a mould of your present key and within 2-3 weeks you can collect. Their technicians will set the key for your car. So it is about RM900.00 all in, very sure its not above RM1,000

Thks a lot for the info. I also need a set of keys. Probably will ctc Ingress once my e38 is out from Albert's w/shop.

touch wood.. touch wood.. i only have one keys.. the guy at the work shop has been advising me to buy another one.. for 800+.. i kept procastinating.. cost bloody expensive just for a key.

but seems .. no choice lah

Huuhhhhhh.....I`m not alone here....same problem....urgently need replacement key. Can arrange for group purchase ahhhhh?

Uncle, have u tried to re initialize the key?if not u can change the rechargeable battery(google for the batt replacement).

If confirmed not working, I'll try to contact ingress for group purchase but if only three of us only will not be a group lah...

I come to here very late already ..............hahahahahahah.
Before you asking the BMW Dealers make the key for you, you must check your car got the EWS or not. Last Sunday i checked a BMW owner's e39. Found out his car dont have EWS. His car only has the Alpine Code start engine system.

If this is Alpine Code system is not originally from BMW meaning if he pay to BMW Dealers to make the key then the key will not start the engine. Alot of BMW owners do not know that BMW Dealers or BMW service cannot guaranty 100% the new key can start your engine or open the door.

That e39 has been remove the EWS and replace a Alpine Code car alarm system. I have asking that guy to open a thread in our forum but until now still not yet see him in here.

The type of the transponder using by this car alarm system is not same as what i am using now. I cannot clear see the type due sky is dark and raining too. I forget to take a picture due to raining is coming.

The module is black color. Then it has a green wire attach to body. After i remote that wire then the car cannot start. But this e39 still using IR remote key to open and close the door. I connected back the green wire and removed that transponder from the key then it cannot start the engine. After i replaced back the transponder then only can start the engine.

Of course when ur car has been modified with aftermarket item, u can't expect the original thing to work with it...
