The other day, my battery have a problem cannot start the car. Guy from Accessories shop came with a powerbank and some cables and jump start my car.

Anybody knows how to do that? It will be useful for emergencies. I wished I paid more attention at the time.

crusher,

I have the powerbank similar to the one shown by Jarance from lelong. With a full charge, it can jump start a car for about 20 times. It also comes with different plugs to charge various types of handphones plus you can use it as a LED torch light. A very handy item to keep in the car.

what is the symptom shown that the battery need to change . in term of year or error code or just kong on the spot . some suggest to place in battery regulator cause there's a warning sign , time to change the battery . precaution for the future ...
I think I need one ...

You can check the condition of your battery at any battery shop. They have a tester which will indicate the condition of the battery and even tell you how long the battery will last.

Usually, the battery for BMW will last for 3 to 5 years. I have even heard some people say it last 7 years.

One simple way of checking is leave your light on without the engine running for about 2 to 3 hours. If car cannot start, then it is time to change the battery.

My E90 battery just died today. The original BMW Varta DIN100 battery just lasted about 4.5 years or 65k km. :(

But good to share about this product. Gonna be very useful in jump starting a car.

Any idea what's the minimum mAh the powerbank needs to have to jump start the car? Most of us have powerbanks already. Maybe just need the right connector cable.

whatttt?a salesguy from a computer shop told me this story once and i was very skepticle to the point of not believing him.isn't the current draw huge at start up?Why even the jumper cables look very thin.(from googling a powerbank jumpstart kit).I once tried the normal jump starting using el cheapo jumper cables(small gauge) but failed.Used a bigger gauge then OK.How can it be possible for a small powerbank to be able to crank up a big load such as a car engine......??? :stupido3:

In my case, no symptom. I just parked the car and playing music with the car turned off. After about 0.5 hr, I try to start and get the familiar tek tek tek. Radio and all lights still can work, just could not start.

crusher , I think your's is related to the starter . this is from my past experience . l just knock the starter and drove to the nearest bmw workshop . you either change the solenoid or the whole thing ...

I keep a high gauge jumpper cable in my car. Can always ask other driver to help you to jump start. Most important is that you have the cable.

I read somewhere it is not advisable for us to let our car jumpstart other cars coz if done incorrectly can damage our electronics.

I have jump start many cars before and have been jump start by other cars. So far so good.

jump starting is alright provided that the right cables are used and able to support the voltage.

crusher's concern - there were instances when the electronics were short circuited especially the LCi models when jump-starting. The newer electronics are ultra sensitive and are programmed to accept the exact amount of voltage to operate, hence when a jump start activity is operated, there may be too much or too little current passing through and may cause the ecu to send out error messages. If unlucky, may caused the box to be reset.

since holiday season is just around the corner , how about any arrange for group buy ... precaution is better than cure .
