Hi all, After getting my 2004/5 325i, I sent it to MSpeed USJ to carry out quite a major servicing guided by recommendations by sifus in this forum. Happy with the service, quality and also charges by Ah Meng. Maybe he was extra mindful of the fact that he had to do a good job and charge reasonable prices as I kept on referring to the advice/recommendations given in this forum.. also told him he was recommended by ppl in the forum :) Problem Anyway, one problem he couldn't rectify was the intermittent side mirrors adjustment function. After initial dealer rectification by unknown repair shop, I used for 2 days and then lost complete adjustment function in left side mirror (passenger side) - unable to move mirror sideways or up and down. On driver's side can only move sideways but not up and down. Then sent back to dealer and he repaired again. Next day same thing but this time, driver's mirror can only move inside but cannot move back out again. Up and down still unable. Then after servicing by Ah Meng, OK for 1 day only then kaput again. This time Ah Meng recommended his friend, Johnny who is a freelance specialist wireman. I called Johnny and made an appointment with him.. apparently he makes house calls... so he came to my house for the rectification. Workscope He started at approx 10.00am and finished at about 11.15. He used a canggih looking computerized instrument (brand "Launch") with its own mini printer to hook up to car diagnostic port. Then he removed the driver's side door card and fiddled with the wiring from the side mirror to the mirror control switch. Tested all wiring and connections and spliced up 2 or 3 wires. After about 1 hour, both mirrors operated satisfactorily. However he said that if problem persists, that means the mirrors got to be changed coz wiring and connection now OK. So far until today still OK. However I disabled the automatic dipping function during reversing (i.e. when engage reverse gear, the mirrors do not dip but stay in their fixed position)... Cost[/U] & Comments Cost is RM180.00 - seems a bit expensive considering no materiel at all used.. but on the other hand I think it is fair cos we are paying for his expertise and for using his brains... also he has to cover the cost of his instrument (18K?).. His troubleshooting skills are good. However, owners who really sayang their cars will cringe at the way he removes the door card and reinstalls. It was quite rough and messy. During the removal, some of the gooey black (sealant?) stuff sticking the card to the metal got on to the interior panels and was a real pain to remove.. After he went back, I noticed the card sticking out about 1/2 inch at the bottom, called him back and he reinstalled it properly with all the clips in, then only OK. That evening, when using the car, found the airbag light on, called him again and we met at Petronal Kota Damansara for him to reset using his instrument. Apparently he forgot to reset the computer? after repair. Contact According to Johnny, he studied electronics and can repair electrical/electronic systems for most modern cars (he got the software), can also do auto gate (repaired mine after doing the 325) etc. If any of you have any chronic electrical problems, maybe u could try him out. He does not operate from a shop but goes around on motorbike. However he services all the workshops around Kota Damansara and USJ area. You can get his number from Ah Meng or PM me as I understand that we are not supposed to post hp nos here? Hope this is useful for anyone who are facing electrical problems. Thanks for reading and have a nice day!
