Hi All ICE fans,I have been asking around but yet to see the actual installation of 6.5" speakers on to the front door panels. Have also asked around some installers. Some said they can do it, some said NOT possible. For those installers that said they could do it, too bad they dont have a car to show me or how they 'cut' to get the 6.5" speakers installed.Anyone has such experience with their e39?I plan to change my front speakers from the 5.25" stock to 6.5".By the way, anyone tried installing a 3-way component 6.5" speakers on their e39? Van sifu - may be you know of some forummers around had such setup?

PB,

Sorry man ... don't think anyone here has gone to that extent. But there are a few E39s on SoundDomain Forum .... let me get you some linkys! A 3-way front setup is probably even harder as you'll have limited options for mounting the tweteers and mid-range ( A-pillar wud be the best but it's very difficult with the pillar mounted air-bags being so close ) but is still do-able with some creativity. BTW, any particular reasons for ditching the 5.25 size for a bigger driver ?

Regards,
VaN.

Hi Van bro,
Have been going around to listen to some ICE setups lately. Many installers told me you cant get much improvement from a 5.25" driver comparing to the current stock drivers at least. Anyway, up to now, havent really got a chance to listen to an actual setup with a 5.25" drivers as many setups are with 6.5" drivers. Van bro, so far have you come across a 5.25" setup which in your opinion, gives significant improvement compared to stock setup? What drivers were being used?
Per some installers, to improve on the overall sound, they recommended to install additional active crossover with separate channels used for the tweeters and mid drivers. Which mean, for front alone, will use up 4 channels. Will this really improve the sound from a 5.25" setup? An additional monoblock to be used to drive the sub.
I am really not a fan of doing too much modifications on the door panels, or even installing kick panels but just worry if I were to go for a 5.25 drivers setup, I will not have much improvement.
Van bro, I will PM you on some proposed setups as I do not wish to disclose in the open ending up offending some people.
