Dear all sifu's...My brother bought a 2nd hand 325 e46 m sports last month...Everything is fine. But i have doubt in mind about this one particular thing. When in slow/normal driving (RPM between 1500 and 2500 RPM) the RPM needle went up and down and it annoyed me to death...i think that this is not normal..especially in cornering .what do you guys think?Did a search on previous posting, and found a few post that has similar problem..but normally it doesnt have an end e.g. the solution and did it solve the problem..One of the proposed solution was-to clean the MAF-to change the ignition coil/spark plug (spark plug changed recently)-vanos repair?-changed the entire GB?I was thinking of sending the car to a mechanic 2moro to see what is the real issue..will keep you guys updated. (still afraid kene chop)Was thinking of sending it to Stuttgart. Any other recommendation guys to solve this problem? I'm open to any suggestion. In the mean time, any idea on previous members having this particular problem? Your opinion is very much appreciated.Tq.

Start with the easy thing first.

1. clean the MAF
2. Change the fuel filter
3. change the spark plugs.

your brother or the car?

MAF is quite costly. So, if you can get the mech to try with another MAF, better.
When the RPM goes up and down, does the gear change as well?

affan, I dont think the GB will shift gear around 1500 to 2000 rpm.

Try changing the oil in the gearbox...as it probably has not been changed. What's the mileage of the car? .^^.

but if the MAF has issues, the RPM will hunt up and down even at idle, right?

Changed the spark plug recently, less than a month.

Will check on the fuel filter and the MAF

Gear change is rather smooth...only once, there is a "THUD" sound from the back side of the car...axle?

Did mechanic use the BMW original ATF oil?

Heard a lot people having GB issue after changing ATF oil when the mechanic just use ordinary ATF oil.

Yes, it have been known dirty MAF will give idling problem. Rather than changing the MAF, sometime just cleaning it by spraying with MAF cleaner does wonder.

Dirty MAF is due to not changing the air filter regularly. Sometime, MAF is contaminate when the drop in filter is not cleaned properly and cause the oil to be carried over.

So first thing first is to clean the MAF?...can the specialist do this?

Cleaning the MAF is the least you can do. You can do it yourself (DIY). I think there is a thread on the DIY. All you need is to buy the MAF cleaner from CRC and some basic tool and elbow grease. Take about half an hour to do it. Just do a search to get the info.

There is one gut by eterna who do it for RM50 as a part time.

The last time i my friend cleaned the MAF, it cost him to change a new unit.

To clean the MAF, you need the CRC cleaner and a philips screwdriver. Otherwise you can contact "eterna" to have it done by him. I had mine done by eterna without any problem at all.
