I really appreciate your advise on I-Drive. I has some problem with the I Drive on my Japan spec E60. The I-Drive is not stable, it can be on and off as and when it wishes. I don't seem to have control over it . There was a time when the I-Drive was on, a message appeared " High Battery Discharged, some electrical consumers will be shut off". There were also a time whereby there is no faulty message and the radio is alright. Sometimes, there was no sound came out from the radio. It was not in the mute position. What are the causes?. It is still under the warranty from the grey importer. The last time I brought it to the workshop, the mechanic told me that I Drive does not effect the car performance and I would be able use to use it during Raya Break.I am going to bring the car to the mechanic again. When I first bought the car a week before Raya, the battery was replaced with DIN88 free maintenance type. I have read the forum which stated that the battery should be the DIN100. I have regularly checked the battery, it seems ok with green light on all the times. It soo easy to start the car in the morning. The mechanic told me that DIN 88 could not be culprit to the problem on the I DriveOther than that I Drive problem, the car is extremely good.

did the mechanic re-initialized the battery monitor after he changed the battery? if not ask him to...then monitor from there if there is still issue...next would be the ground cable...

Have the same problem with my iDrive, as a result of the Captor battery dying after 2 years and draining my main battery over 24 hours. There was a "high battery discharge" message, which resulted in:

1) Radio intermittently cutting out
2) iDrive intermittently resetting itself
3) occasional loss of control of iDrive knob
4) hissing and popping of speakers
5) complete failure of Bluetooth and CD changer facilities

AB has said that the head unit and telemetrics control unit require changing, cos they are blown.
I've yet to do this, no time, but will be sending it in very soon.

using improper type of battery will make a high battery discharge. to b safe, since u still have warranty with d grey importers, ask them to replace it with an original BMW battery. what t2ribena say is also correct. u must also ask them to register the battery to let d car know on what current and cold starting ability of current battery r using now.

what joshua say is also correct. e60 usually have this problem. tcu/ulf control unit kong, which will result in idrive n radio intermittent failure. just 2 b sure, when d idrive is ok, try n pair your hp with ur car. if it fails, then there is ur culprit.

happy troubleshooting !

:rolleyes:wink:...forget the trouble-shooting ...if its still under warranty, get it replaced immediately. That will be the best and wise options:top:

I have changed the battery. I-Drive is not working either. Now waiting for the replacement from the dealer. TQ for your input.

What he said.

E60 systems seem to be very sensitive to current/voltage fluctuations. An original BMW batt from one of the main dealerships will cost about rm1.9k, including reset, which may seem to be quite hefty (probably cheaper in a proper BMW specialist). However, in the long run, using an approved battery will help prevent control unit malfunctions, and the cost of such units in BMWs are substantial. This is also something to note if you have aftermarket systems leeching off your main car batt, like trackers and such.

Hello BMW forumer,

Anybody knows how to input small letters via iDrive, E60. Please help.
