checked through realoem.com as well... keyed-in my VIN and confirmed N52 engine :top:
Did that before buying the car lah... :D

Sorry for bumping this old thread but what is VIN and how do I get it?

Vehicle Identification Number.

Can get on your registration card/under the bonnet/bottom of front windscreen.

Also be very aware of fake M-sports. Usually can be easily seen with the chrome window trims. Some sellers say that a highline is an M-sport because of the bodykit, but look out for the chrome window trim and the M-sports steering

Does this apply to the earlier E60s, say '03 to '05 models? I notice all the above on the '06 models with pushstart.

My E60 05 is N52 engine without push start :( like t2ribena said.. Only 06 onwards has this feature. Should have waited for 06 model.. Sigh!!

Buying a standard edition over M-Sport can save us around RM20-30K depending on the car. With that amount of money we can change a new set of rims, bodykits of our choice, steering wheels to "M-Sport", etc :) What do you guys think?

It depends actually if you don't mind using fibre glass body kit then sure you will save alot but no quality lah ... if you go for aftermarket offerings like Hamann or AC body kit then the price might even be more expensive, also you don't get the shadowline trim, plus you need to get 18" wheels and tires plus you might need to replace your standard absorber and spring, M-Sport steering wheels and so on ... so how much would you actually save? Interesting question actually :4:

Thanks for the feedback bro :) Actually I'm not sure too but looking at such a huge price difference, I thought doing it all by myself would be better. I believe most kits these days are made using FRP materials (which is better)? If it's PP then yeah, it's crap!

bro its not just the bodykit, m-sport also has black window trim, black headlining, larger wheel, different suspension, steering wheels, bonnet lip, interior trim and the seats! for me the m-sport seats are important and its really expensive to retrofit!

I think only the seats are the most difficult to retrofit. Yup I know there are quite a bit of differences but in terms of cosmetics mostly. Here's what I think would work from the 30K saved:

M5 or M-tech bodykit FRP material = RM4,500
19" sport rims with tyres = RM8,500
M-Sport steering wheels (used) = RM2,000
LCI rear light conversion = RM3,500
Bilstein shocks/absorbers = RM6,000

Total = RM24,500

Just a rough figure and trying to think if it makes sense, haha. I know I'll lose that wonderful sport seats, head lining and trims. Another thing is that some High Line have sun roof and carbon fibre trims interior which some M-Sports doesn't have :( If I have the money, I'll just go for the LCI and problem resolved.

Looking at your calculations it would be far better to just pay that bit more for the M-Sport variant :4:

Thanks guys :) Actually if we get those AP, very likely we'll have to end up changing the tyres because most of them are just too old :( $$$ gone again
