High RPM

Recently i drove my fren' e39..same modal same year manufactured with mine, but different driving feeling ..his car feel smooth in changing gear.My problem is..my car will lock (may be not lock but stay) in low gear (1/2/3) when cruising (not everytime but always), it will only turn to high gear (4/5) when i press more to reach the high RPM. Almost everytime change the gear from 1 to 2 or 2 to 3, i can feel the gear change in faultiness (feel like tremble).How come..??

i've got the same problem with my e46 as well...it sounds like "dum" when i change gear 1 to 2 only...i dont know if it is normal...my gear so keras to masuk...ketat...is it ok or a problem? please help us sifu out there...

If keras to masuk, may be the spring inside there kaput oledi..check with ur mechanic.

Okay..ianeza, i got same problem with my E46. Told by mechanic that too much free play on my gear and nothing much we can do. There is 'dum" sound at the low gear shifting.

bmw7833, i dunno about e39...in your case change the ATF oil, might be will help. I dunno. Better check with mechanic or else waiting reply from E39 guru.

From my most recent experience when I when for the 1st service after I got my secondhand E36.. Got the ATF oil changed to an OEM brand. After about 100km drive the gear change is lagging or something like your car. Return to the workshop and have them test drive.

Solution.. drain all the new ATF.. replace with original BMW ATF and after 100km drive.. the gear change is as smooth as silk. It will change at 2000rpm if I on cruise, or 2500 when accer normally.

Ohh ya.. I read from UDMOwners.com that resetting your Trans ECU might help too.. Just unplug your battery for 20minutes and plug it back then drive as if you got your car new. (Not sure on this..but u may try)

Izzit if i change the ATF oil then can solve my problem?? Feel worstly recently..

go to check with mech with GT1. changing oil might just solve it else i think you need a new converter or gearbox :burnout:

btw, why you never check with your mech and tell us the result?!:rock:

I ever go to Two-B, boss said normal saja..But i felt different with my fren car..

New gearbox?? Wahlauehh..that will kill my pocket..
