Got it, so you're saying the projector will need to be changed to D2S type in order for D2S bults to fit.

Didn't know D2S and H1 are compatible.. what minor modifications need to be done?

i did one such conversion.... to fit the DS2 into a H4. The principle is more or less the same. Get a cheap set of H1s, break the bulb out and use the base to fit the D2s into the projector lights. This can be done DIY, having regards to the design and bonding materials used should be able to withstand the high heat from the HIDs. you can use this to make a glare shield too to do the beautiful rainbow cutoffs... ;)

here is something interesting for your reading: http://faqlight.carpassion.info/special-topics.htm

or, you can foot out some dough to buy an adapter similiar to this:
https://www.casperselectronics.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=103016&Category_Code=

this costs about usd25 each not counting postage, packaging and shipping. perhaps, you should think about the 1st option.:p

Guys,

Need yr advice. Plan to install HID kit for my E36 soon by weekend. Previously use phillips diamond vision bulb but transfer it to fog lamp. Really confuse after reading the thread. Offered taiwan HID 8000k for 1k. Already taken out inside lens cover when installed CCFL A/eyes.

Initial,

What's confusing you, bro ? RM 1K for a Taiwan made set is a wee bit on the high side .... prices have dropped if you check around. Plus, anything about 6000K rating or lower should be just fine ..... the higher your Kelvin rating, the more likely you'll be stopped/questioned by the cops.

Cheers,
VaN.

Diamond Vison (Philips) has damage my plastic lens (E-38) after intall 2 week. So, please take note!!!!!!!

for your information I upgrade my oringinal xenon 5000K (E46)to 10000K by change the blubs, cost me RM800.00 from Japan also.

 Really ah? My fog lamp lens crack after I install the diamond vision bulb. damn!
Is it becoz too hot?

i thought the Philips Diamond series are headlamp user-friendly ? read something on the packaging that says "UV Block Quartz: safe for plastic headlamps..."

jus wana ask something stupid..i jus wondering that if xenon=HID??
btw last few weeks i saw everycar with HID stop by the police in a road block..
HID is against the law?i thought is not..isnt it?uhh make me got to reconsider bout the changes..

like at BMW7 said...i am kinda confuse too...like wat u guys toking bout H1 H4 n DS2 those stuff... =P

i feel tht the law is also dont know what they are reffering it to , now the new proton sports edition r3 have hid install.

The rules on HIDs are not clear cut enuf to be enforced. Aftermarket HIDs are considered illegally but u can go by if you have lower color temp ie 5500K. Stock HID system on the BMWs are about this temp range. Bulbs with too high color temp would project bluish color which can be easily spotted from far and it is totally useless in the rain.

Obviously thats the problem motorists are facing, guidelines and rules are unclear. So, the rules and guidelines are subject to the JPJ officers' interpretation.

In my humble opinion, any bulb below 6000k temp rating should be okie and all headlights must have a projector lense.

where did you see the roadblocks ahhhh??

dwj, you can refer to this :

Basically H1, H4, H7 and DS2 are refer to the different foot (mounting) on the bulb.

your e36 do come with projectors from the factory. projectors they are but HID projectors they are not. anyway, the hid set with d2s bulbs will not fit your e36 which uses H1 bulbs. rm500 may be cheap but getting a rebased hid bulb will cost you more than the rm500. better off buying a hid conversion kit elsewhere.

the rm500 HIDs will be a great option for those whois thinking of going the retrofit route or even those intending to keep them as spares, since getting a replacement from "official sources" may most often cost you say..... an arm or leg, methaphoricly speaking.
what about E30?
