I would appreciate any official guidelines on HID. What colour temperature is illegal?

As long as not OEM spec, its illegal. Check your user manual.

i wonder... what is the big hung up about tints....
I agree if it is too dark like 30%, then it might impose hazards...
However, if it is installed at the passenger side and not the driver, where is the hazard?
If this is such a big risk, then why the buses are so dark and even has curtains...

In overall, how many accidents can they prevent from dark tint. I think there is an ulterior motive to this la... may be to divert malaysians to other daily living issues rather every day banging on the country leadership.

Since when JPJ came up with a regulation that makes sense? Never! We are the only country on earth that implement road tax based on engine capacity. It should be based on emission and/or the weight of the car. There's no need for the mat rempit to pay the road tax but they are main hazards on our roads. Like you said this could be their attemp to divert the rakyat's attention from the underlying issue, so that the new Pengarah will be seen as "doing something". When the new pengarah takes over, he also wants to been as "doing something" which is going to be a different issue from the HID altogether. One thing for sure, it will never makes sense.

Where does it say in the manual?

Manual says if your lights not working, please refer to your dealer.. :p

What year is your car? What model? Let me to try my luck and download the user manual and read for u.

Look at it this way, anything that does not come with the car as OEM equipment (all specified in user manual), is considered modification and all modification that is not spelled out in the JPJ Modification Guidelines ARE considered illegal.

As at todate, not approval given to any workshop to for halogen to HID conversion. They are ALL illegal, regardless of what color temperature used.

http://202.190.64.96/v5/content/view/31/72/1/0/lang,en/ (There's a section on tinting in it, read carefully..)

Planta, as for the dark tint, I believe its common sense. Why would any one want to tint their car to below 20% light penetration? Unless you have mistress to fetch la.. :p

Its not about tint causing accident la. Same guideline as not helmet allow in bank. There's no falling object in bank, so they ban helmet in banks loo.. :D

Few days back, an R3 looked Satria park in front on my car with less than 20% light penetration tint. Never seen the car before (not neighbour's car), engine remain on for more than 10 minutes as can hear the louder than normal exhaust node. What would u do when u have kids playing at your porch? As a parent, I am paranoid!! and almost wanted to call 999.

It turns out the fella waiting for football kaki to play football at a near by padang..

As for the road tax base on engine capacity, I think its common sense too to promote energy conservation. Big CC = unnecessarily high fuel consumption = high car maintenance bill = SIN, thus the move is to discourage such car on the road or you pay through your nose. Its a welcome tax evasion method anyway because big CC car are mostly business owned, in a way gomen is funding over 20% anyway in the form of lost of tax revenue. So they expect the business community to road tax, not suffering of "rakyat" per se.

No problem ma, get a 25 years old car and apply for "classic" status or 30 years old car and apply "vintage" status which entitles the owner to 80% and 90% discount on road tax, respectively.. :D

Majority of Malaysians are drivers and everyone lives under the sun. We have climate change issue like the heat and the safety issue where idiots breaking windows whenever they see smart tags or bags inside the car. This is becoming more of a need rather than a luxury item. Therefore, when they want to do such enforcement, it will divert the public's attention from the underlying issues like national leadership, increase in food prices and others.

Talk about accidents, comfortability affects driving attitude. The longer you stay in a car that is uncomfortable, the more agressive or impatient your driving will be. If not for the driver's own comfort, you would definitely feel pity for discomfort for your kids at the back of the car covering their face with their hands from the sun. People use tints nowadays for comfort and safety. My point is, why does darker tint is illegal for passenger sides? IT does not impose hazard to the driver and other road users. So why the hell does JPJ who is supposed to be working on reducing accidents consider this. There must be another motive.

I read somewhere in past a comment from a JPJ officer that such tint enforcement is needed to ensure that drivers have clear vision when driving. hmmmm. If tint is limiting vision, then there must a law to prevent drivers from wearing sunglasses while driving la.....

Ok! Fuad4, u ask for it!

I dunno alxy E60 is what year or variant, so I just check the E60 2007 model manual. Its a blardy near 300 pages manual !!

....and found it on Page 223-4

E60 2007 User Manual>>

What it says is if your E60 is on Halogen headlights, then both high/low bulb is using Type H7, 55 watts bulbs. If Xenon lamps, then..

Quote:
Xenon Lamps
The service life of these bulbs is very long and the probability of a failure is very low, provided that they are not switch on and off an unusual number of times. If one of these bulbs should nevertheless fail, it is possible to continue driving with great caution using the fog lamps, provided traffic laws in your area do not prohibit this.

Have work on the xenon lighting system performed only by your BMW center or a workshop that works according to BMW repair procedures with correspondingly trained personnel. Due to high voltage present in the system, there is a danger of fatal injuries when work is carried out improperly.

Actually my E60 is projector OEMs, so I'm not worried about that. It's my E46 I'm worried about. I had 3rd party 8000K HIDs installed. Wanted to know legal limit so maybe can change to 6000K or 4300K. But looks like all might be illegal from the feedback given so far :(

Oh well, I guess I'll just have to drive the E60 at nights then....

Check this out... as long as u keep it at the low 4000k, you should be alright.

i don't think JPJ would be bothered to check whether a person's car is fitted with 4k,6k or 8k HID. The rule will be .... see the color of the headlight. Open the bonet, check for modified wires, find the component... ahhhhhh.... sudah kena.....

Bravo JPJ, just keep up the kampong mentality and check all them lembu, kerbow 'n' kambing eyes too! Where's the technological advancements that the country is trying so hard to implement? Guess, like I said before, we are taking a giant step BACKWARDS!

bro i drive my car 24/7 day and night . at that time my tinting was: Rear windscreen: 100%, rear side windows 160% front windows: 140% basically all double layer. front windscreen was: 70%clear.

Now its all changed to 80% all windows at the back, front windows 70% and front windscreen 60% clear.

As i was installing the tinting at my shop in Kampung Tunku. there was a JPJ officer there. he said how nice and dark my car was. and that if he ever came across my car in a roadblock he wouldnt "KACAU" me.

Some police and JPJ officers, say they dont usually Kacau drivers with single or double digit number plates.

I wouldnt say that was fair? would u?

U go buy the halogen bulb from Brothers Accessories that has blue coating, sure kena slap with illegal HID conversion summon... :D I wonder how the summon is worded?

You can get a cheh-kai lawyer to fight them all the way if they really put the word "HID" or "Xenon" on the summon where you only use a blue halogen.. :D

Probably they will just put "Modifikasi lamp haram" or "Lampu depan tidak mengikut spesifikasi" or "Lamp depan yang tidak mematuhi undang-undang".. :p what about "Lampu melampau terang" :D

This is so silly, a lot of these businesses / accessories shop are registered businesses so as I understand legal outfits aren’t supposed to deal with illegal stuff, but how come the gomen don’t crack down on sellers / retailers ? They wait for us rakyat to install the darn things then make us spend more money getting rid of it. Mind you every time a bill is presented to you, there’s govt tax somewhere in there.

Why won’t they use their brains a lil’ to differentiate the type of headlights that can and cannot use HID’s. The problem lies with these damn Toyota’s, Honda’s and some of these SUV’s. JPJ officers should be spat on at roadblocks for not using their freaking brains. Do they expect us to take out our HID’s and have it for breakfast? Idiots… They should ban accessories shops from selling anything that isn’t original, Ban exhausts that rumble, ban tints that are dark regardless of the person is etc etc etc….. Planta, you may be right lah, Once everyone adheres to their ridiculous rulings, they gonna go after people that wear sunglasses. Reason ? can’t see if they are sleeping or not. JPJ Bodoh !!!!

Well, since we are definitely not having HID for breakfast, let see how many unlucky ones here and please update us what the JPJ people do to u?

I trust that we beemerian paid a premium for our cars to "stay clear" of such road block trouble.. :p

So far none of us kena right? My friend kena 2 weeks ago in SS2 but he was driving a HID equipped Wiralution la! Padan muka.. :p

OEM spec is 3400K. But, as you mentioned earlier any modification (even if it is 99.9% close to OEM spec) is still illegal. So, that gives me an excuse to buy a new car:rock:. He he ..

not only about the HID, car tinted also very strict!

i just send my car to puspakom to do the ownership transfer, all (new/old cars) the tinted film has to be remove/tear ON THE SPOT!:stupid:

mine also kena remove, and i saw many new car owner tearing their tinted film with angry face!....

:listen:will tint after few months when everything is settle down....:listen:

i'm using 4350k HID and d light seems pretty stock (with yellowish color instead of the white or blue) but shining abit brighter on the road. So far 2 police blocks, seems ok but my rear dark tint is attracting unwanted attention. Will get it removed this weekend. I was in Puspakom last week (was on an assignment), and i noticed that majority of their 4WD operasi vehicles are heavily tinted. D question is, Why so? Today i was tailgated by 2 MBPJ Ford Escape, those buggers were like racing with each other... and. .. their cars were heavily tinted too! .. Why so? Are they all with skin disease?

2 year ago, I was flagged down by cops in "a certain well known notorious area". I asked them to proceed to issue the summon pls, so that i can go on with my business and i'll appear again for watever inspection. Guess what? they want to compound my car.. refused to me back my IC and ask me to follow them back to the station. There, I was confronted by 3 officers (of different rankings). I threw some names... didnt work.

Finally, i said fine... i tear off the tint, pay the fine and let me be on my way as i'm late for an appointment. Still... nooOooOOoo.. insisted to compound d car... and proceeded to compound 2 cars that was in ahead of mine both of which were as dark inside d cabin as it is on a moon-less midnight (mine was just the rear dark tinted not the entire car).

Fine... so i said how? what do u all want?

Well...we all know how it'll end..I have to asked 6 fully dressed in blue Gabenors to stand in for my car.. and that itself, they saw a few remaining friends of mine in the car and wanted MORE of my friends which i told them off that they shouldnt be so greedy wanting so many friends...

I believe some people in this world do things with hidden agendas and not for the greater good of all... this 2 case (tint and hid) are perfect examples ... and those bengs on the road with sirens, purple hids, tint so-dark-u-cant-see-shit-even-if-u-hit-it plastered from front to side and to the back, rainbow colored side markers and strobe for parking lights arent helping much too...

Rgds,
