This afternoon I was driving my E46 325i on the Elite highway from Setia Alam to USJ. Suddenly I heard a "Ting" sound and found that the clock display on the cluster gauge change to temperature showing -40 Deg C and I check the temperature is less than half scale. Then I check also the coolant but water is full. Can anyone help me what is the problem ?

mine shows a constant 40 - 45 C

but no ting sound??

No. Before was showing clock time but after the sound, temperature display is on replacing the clock.

press the end/tip of ur signal stalk till you see the clock ..

Bro, i had this issue of -40 degrees temperature on my instrument cluster last week. Get you temperature sensor checked, if its still intact, get it cleaned. Some dust/debris tend to stick on it. If its not there, replace it, it prolly flew off..hehehe..

Have try it...but still showing temperature...

AhBan, the temp probe is underneath your front bumper just infront of the left wheel. Its a little pointed shape about 2 inch long, fitted and angled towards the wheel. You wouldn't miss it unless it has already gone missing.

you are lucky that you still get cold air, when mine was showing -ve, only hot air came out from the aircon vent, have to wait till it get back to +ve.

Anyway, do what deep3102 did, take it out clean it and put it back to see if it show something different. if it still shows -40, then time to get a new one from auto part shop

Bro, my experience with it is based on E39. Its located at the driver side wheel fender.
I hope this helps bro..I assume the position is similar for either model after going thru the link.
