Hi, all beemer....Recently I have changed my e46 Facelifted 325i tyres from 16" to 18" with the Rear tyre 255 and front tyre 225. But now facing that the tyres is scratching the fender when unflatted road. I heard some say I need to skimmed the rims for putting the tyres more inside and modify the fender which cost me about RM2++. But some said I need to change the adsorber & springs to jacked it up which cost RM1+++. Which is better ?Will upload my picture later ! Thanks.

Which tyres are scratching? Front or rear?

BTW, what type of rims did you installed?

I am on R/255 and F/225 for my 325 without any problem.

Is spring dampener an option? pretty cheap

Yup....Will try the damper first....as the workshop say need to skim the rims and the fender make me not turning back.....

What is happening is called 'rubbing' and it's happening cause the rims is the wrong offset for your car and who sold you this rims should be responsible enough to tell you it would. Options are you could roll your fenders more outwards so it won't rub your tyres... search roll or rolling fenders in this forum as there is a shop in sunway who can do this. Another option is to change the spec of your rear tyres to a narrower 245's? 235's? 225's? problem with this is your rims will look stretched which might not be such a bad thing as some prefer the look.

Before I went to stock my setup look like this, very noticable rubbing at the front but not with the fender. Don't know if the rear rub, on 225 and major stretching

Cheers

Mine is like ahban's 18inch. Style 184

ahban why the front tyre look more stretched than the back?

I was having the front of 225 and back 255 ! Back one using 2nd hand cost RM500 for 95% thread. The rims is use for 1 months old and I had cheated after bought this. bTW, the damper won't help as the supplier said. I will go to skim the inside rims and modify the fender to suit the rear tyre.

dun think this buffer works bro....yes it is cheap but usually avoid bottom up from the tyre hitting the ceiling of the inner mud guard...btw..out of topic abit..wat lowered spring/adjustables u use....damn nice low stance...

looking at ah ban picture...looks like a 5 series offset rims...front shld be 8J..rear 9.5J..offset shld be less thn 40..if more thn 40 offset i dun think u get rubbing...

Do you need to skim and roll the fender? Wouldn't either one suffice? I was doing some reading on fender rolling last time, the paint must be heated first before rolling or it will crack where it folds.

Mine was some Eibach spring, crazy low and undrivable here, now back to stock

ahban ...by the pictures it seems to be fine ...which part is rubbing ..the front or the rear ?? what are the offset of those wheels ?? if the fronts are the one then you may need some spacers as it tends to rub at the inner side strut housing ..

Yes. It was 8.5J + 38 offset. Front not rubbing but rear rubbing bcoz I put in 255 tyre where is over the fender.

just remember..for e46 offset need to be above +40..for 255 tyres..judging from ur offset..u must be hitting on ur rear bumper plastic instead of top fender grind..am i right..

Is changing the rear to 225 from 255 an option?

the front tyre used to rub with the wheel well on bumps, but what kills is the underbody grinding at multilevel carpark and speed humps.

woah big case... Im using 265 Rear 235 front... rubbing on the back only when 2 people sitting if me and GF ... no problem :p

BTW i think mine is rubbing cause its lowered and the damper might work :)

Bro welcome back, yours no scrubbing because correct offset..?

Yes, I agree Jarance. The dampener is only use when you have nothing problem with asb & spring but your area got a lots of bump and hole, then is mights help a bit for keep your asb longer life.
