After getting my new 17 inches tires asymmetric 2, I am feeling slight vibration in the steering between 30 to 60 kph. I can't see the steering vibrating but I can feel it. I used to have on my old tires at 29 or 30 psi but my new tires are at 38psi front and 40 psi for the back axle. I asked the tire dealer and got told the tires need more time to settle in because german made tires are like this. He said he will balance again for free after 1000km.Then he said to me today (an hour ago) that I should have taken the Michelin PS3 instead which was ready+available in his shop unlike my asymmetric 2 which I had to wait approx 2 weeks! :wink:My cornering feel not glued even below 70 in circus or windy roads. What could be wrong?

Sheesshhh... What a load of hoopls you are hearing from the shop!!!

All tires, any brand for that matter should not behave as such... There are lots to look at here, imho. One is that the tires needs to be balanced, both off and on wheel. Alignment is another. Look into these two first and work your way into other things like bushings etc [this may be a long shot, but I've known of some cases where worn bushings were the culprit].

Hope you get this sorted out soon and do keep us posted on your corrective solution. Good luck Paul.

Bought 4 new PS 3 tires from MPS 2 weeks ago. Front 2 tires were replaced this morning due to manufacturing defect... (1) when tires were cold, steering wobble at 80 km/h to 100 km/h, once warmed up no wobbling (2) high speed 160 to 200 km/h, tires/car felt unstable. All checks, off and on wheel balance & tests were carried out by MPS together with a rep from Michelin before they conceeded and gave me FOC replacement.

vibrations is normally due to alignment and balancing...
try 34-35psi for the tires...

Tyre not round when cold?

I really don't know as the Michelin's technical rep did not reveal to me his findings. He was also under pressured by Manji (MPS boss) not to waste more of MPS's time and hence the FOC replacement.

Many years ago, I had similar problem with my Proton Wira.

The dealer tried balancing a few times but the vibration did not go away.

He blamed my rims were not good etc and didn't want to layan me anymore.

Got so pissed off, drove to the Goodyear Factory in Shah Alam and complained to the people there. Was referred to a Lim Tayar branch, also in Shah Alam where they checked the tires and found that one of them was defective.

They replaced it FOC and the vibration was gone too.

So don't take any shit from the dealer, especially if it is brand new. In my case, the tires were 3 months old and they still replaced it FOC.

Paul, did you have any vibration problems prior to the change?
If no, high probability, its the new rubbers.
Not everything made in germany is 110% perfect
How much weights do they have to put on your wheels?
Did you try to rotate your fronts to the rear and see if you have the same vib?
Normally, a good UHP dealer would see it on the balancer if its a tire problem from the start. I doubt it will disappear after 1000km.
Oh, one more thing, i think your pressure is a tad too high, try dropping maybe 3psi on all, see if ypu feel any difference. Every psi of adjustment makes a difference depending on your driving style, but high pressure will definitely let the driver feel vibrational/road forces

Just my thougts and hope it helps :)

at 38 - 40 psi the tires will be stiff and will be a lot stiffer when hot as the tire pressure will increases as air expand. As mentioned by bro QD try lower down your psi and see how it feels.

If I don't use the car for about 3 days or more, there would be a slight wobbly feel but it usually disappear after 5 minutes of driving. Normal isn't it?
Otherwise, no vibrations at all on my old tires.
Where I was standing, I saw the OK sign on his balancing monitor after balancing each tire.

Thanks so much for the pointers to all who wrote here.:top: After work I will reduce the tire pressure to 34psi. Btw, alignment was not done.

I had the alignment done after a full balancing this afternoon. However I am still feeling slight sensations in the steering between 20-50kph. I can't see the steering vibrating but I can feel it undoubtedly.

Tires are at 32 front and 35 for the rear. The drive feel comfortable now but the sensation (like maybe something got stuck under one tire) in the steering remain. I thought maybe they left the Goodyear labeling on the front tires but clearly they took it off. I tried to see if one of the front tires is not so round but that seem impossible to my eyes.

:29:

IF you can't see the vibration but can sense and feel then I think your engine mounting or autotrans mountings could be konked. You said it only comes at low speeds? Sometime when you get very good rubbers like asymetric, problems like this become amplified. Please be aware some workshop boys test the car recklessly when they think no customers are around. They usually won't admit.

My car is at the bmw workshop. Looking more confusing and frustrating when the elimination process started. They tested and drove it a number of times with a different mechanic and the manager included before pinpointing to the drive shaft which appear to have been scrapped by speeding over a big bump or kerb or other strong :102:eek:bject.

Tires, rims, mass air intake valve, mountings were all checked. Since my car never had such problems before, it has to be someone who had my car when I left it there for the tire change, balancing and alignment & test driving.

Paul, do u try to swap and test with another set of wheel? It will filter out your current set if the problem still exist with the replacement set.
