Erm... actually i am an avid watch fan but i guess i am just a train spotter. My collection of watches mainly consists of Rol*xes and 1 measly IWC and that too given by my father a Pilot watch series. I usually buy 1 watch a year and have made the normal mistake of buying Rol*x thinking they appreciate when they don't.. (actaully they do but its only certain models which have limited runs like the SS daytona).

I am not a fan of leather straps watches thats why my next choice would be a PANERAI a Luminor Marina SS strap. Maybe i am still young and hopefully my tastes mature and i am able to appreciate other brands.

I Love watches..

A Pam is good buy. In time you would have a grasp of the collecting bug. No worries on that. May I suggest that you narrow your collection. Say, only military inspired watches. Another Italian brand is Anonimo. The watchmakers of this brand now was formerly from Pam before Pam for acquired by LVMH. Or by complications eg. chrono/split seconds, annual or perpetual calender etc.

black cat.... pplz can give their own opinions about this and that, till the cows come home, but forgive me for saying this, one man's opinion regarding a certain matter aint gonna change a thing if u think other wise. In fact u would even get mad ie : mad at ah lian. This just boils down to different personalities, likes and dislikes, to each his own...

by creating this thread, i think u were looking for someone to agree wif ur concept...maybe u would find one, then again maybe not...what i can guarantee is flaming on this thread by various persons here...so be prepared...

i have to agree with scin...i dun mind driving my bmw, even if other bmws were used as taxis...

imagine what would mercedes benz (daimler chrysler) do in malaysia if every chinese, malay, indian etc actually felt digusted that their beloved w124s and w210s were being used as airport limos, taxis and hotel limos???

shun their benz and buy a citroen???

anyway..its juz an opinion and everyone is entitled to one...

PS : there is a saying, opinions are like arseholes...everyone's got one...

peace out bro..

PPS : i really hope u get the RM009....

Hi there,

Opinions were what i was looking and hoping for when I started this thread, BUT NOT insults or insinuations! I WAS NOT seeking anyone to agree or not to agree with my opinions - merely opinions. My original post was NOT hostile in nature to anyone here, to start with and as such I expect the same respect and decorum from my fellow forum members.

Having said that, YES, I do agree with you that everyone has their own opinion. And I respect that. People may agree to disagree with me, I am fine with that. BTW, thanks for your feedback. FYI, I am still rolling with by ride...

WAG's is the term given to wives and girlfriends of the England squad members right? so wagged is anything that they wear/use/endorse/buy?? so it developed into any celebs not only footballers wifes and girls ie Siti? hmmm have to agree that the english Wags look tacky but doesn't siti look classy and respectable compared to the Wag's? Maybe she married Dato' K cause she wants to move up the malaysian social scene instead of just being known as a singer.

So back to the OT i think only those in the know noticed she was wearing a RM so it doesn't count as it being wagged?? Been trying to look for that picture to see what blackcat was talking about see what the watch looks like.

...

Welcome back Blackcat, it has been around a year you being keeping quiet.

My first impression when I saw RM as hantaran is ' wow ...... she has a taste but after thinking for a while, it is not hers' but it is her husband. I don't think she even know the different between a Swatch and 'Toy'R'us watch. It must be her husband whom 'Jauhari Mengenal Manikam'. (don't know how to translate it in correct English )

I don't mind if someone don't know the brand I am using because, (again) only' Jauhari Mengenal Manikam'. People used to ask me, what watch I am wearing or what is that IWC stand for, and I will answer 'Indah Water Consortiom' or 'International World of Conman'. I know that I am one or few step above this guy. But now most of people know the exotic brand name le,... all because of'PS Boutique' .

Dreaming of getting a Submariner - kalau ada rezeki

p/s : pls register yr name for Annual Dinner, guaranteed it is going to be yr 'taste' ..... you missed last year dinner.

This is how the RM005 looks like: see attached pic.

BTW, she is not wearing the RM. It was given to him as part of her 'hantaran' to him. And it was in pink/rose gold not as in the pic. The pic was out Tuesday in MM ('Jantan Melayu').

The second pic is an RM9. My fav of the RM series

Hi YAzid,

Yes, its been awhile. Cari makan bang. So been busy and away most of the time. Good to be back though.
IWC? Imprassive. What series do you have on? The Sub is built like a tank, so you should have a long and trouble free ownership. Hope you'll get to buy it soon, ihshallah. I kinda like this if its a R*lex (blackface):

An RM-005 in pink-gold by Richard Mille (RM).

So do you own one of this already, mr watch connoissuer? :D

Well, I do have both at my disposal:rolleyes:. And I do prefer the citroen... ;) :p

The Benz (W126 300SE) handles like a truck but has a lot of go, albeit a few seconds after you floor the accelerator. Power/torque on my Citroen sucks big time, but handling is excellent. At the end of the day, its a matter of priorities. Are you in it for the performance, handling or image, etc; or a combination of any or all those factors. To each his own.

For me, a watch is to tell time. I have a Seiko and a Swatch and serves just as well. Notwithstanding, I do appreciate the time, energy and craftsmanship in making the fine watches such as those mentioned here.

Will I get one? Well, maybe, after I get my M1, 3.0CSL (batmobile), 507, and Porche 911 Turbo (1980s version) in my garage.:D

is this the one you're talking about.. nice.. but at 150k? mmm.. i rather spend on something that sits 4.. :D maybe over time..

i think that watch is..incomplete
hehe kidding :d
great watch indeed
but not my cup of tea

Aiyah!@ at the end of the day, if the man wants to give her the damn thing, let him la.... She can ACTUALLY afford it herself though, but that's not the point la.

And if in doing so, you feel he has devalued the "exclusiveness" of the brand by letting the world know about it and seeing it being worn by her........ I feel quite sad for you la!
If you like the watch so much, just buy it.
Who gives a flying *@#! whether he gave her one or not?? Just because more people know about the brand, doesn't make it less exclusive, because not everyone who has heard of it can actually afford one (if they even liked it to begin with )

If you really want exclusive watches you need to look at these
Breguet, Alain Silberstein,Franck Muller, Vianney Halter, Vincent Calabrese, Vacheron Constantin, Jaeger LeCoultre,Roger Dubuis,Svend Andersen,Stephen Philips ...
Mind you, most of them are downright UGLY if you ask me

...and I still cant understand what's the fuss all about...

No fuss actually...

From my personal observation, mind you my personal observation only and in my personal opinion.

Men do not have much accessories that they own as opposed to women. By accessories here, I do not mean your car accessories, but what you put on besides your clothes. Like a wristwatch, ring, cufflinks, a bracelet or necklace for the more funky among men (not to mention ear studs for the more ehem...). So a wristwatch is someting quite 'personal' that we put on.

I seem to notice that men are often not affected by the syndrome of:

If I were to put on a particular accessory or dress/clothes, I hope no one else would be wearing the same during dinner this evening or during this function.

But the same cannot be said for the opposite gender. Havens forbid, if your significant other is dressed in the same outfit or carrying the same handbag or wearing the same accessory as the other person accross the room in a party/function. Chances a quite high that how she wished that she could just leave the room like pronto...

Again, this is just my personal view on the matter. And I hope I am not in any way construed as 'attacking' the women folks here.

I deduce from the comments and feedback on this thread, it clearly shows that most men could care less about it. Hence my statement above "I seem to notice that men are often not affected by the syndrome".

So, for the ladies in our midst... what are your preception/s on the matter?

..."

Many would not know of this watch's existance, till now that is. By the time you read this post, a gazillion of Malaysians would have known! Thus, my dismay of a brand's exclusivity being jaded. Would every Tom, Dick and Harry be sporting an RM now?!!! Dont think so, as this watch commands a very deep war chest. An entry level RM would easly set you back at the very least about 100k. Would you get someting like this (a rip-off) at Petaling Street? Maybe in a few months time, thanks to the local hooplas!

So my question here, ladies and gents of the flora is...

How do you feel? How would you react? What would you do? When the object of your desire is somehow 'tainted'. When it loses its seduction of exclusiveness...

BlackCat,

Firstly, I dont see why you should feel that the RMs exclusivity has been jaded by what transpired. On the contrary, if I were to own one, I would feel good, knowing that my this celebrity does have good taste and that I also own one.
Do you seriously think that Pasar Malam's would be selling it sometime soon? Well, I doubt so but even if they did...so what, wouldnt it also make you feel good that your's is THE ONE and not a fake?

I do own several watches too...not an RM - cant afford it and even if I could, my priorities would be for other things.

I maybe (hopefully...) understand what you mean by having this exclusitivities in
certain objects/items we desired/loved that lost its lustre, with the owner may have no knowledge or appreciation, but can effortlessly afford the object.
But maybe they are more knowledgeable than you think they are not.

To me it's the Total Lifestyle package that counts... if exclusitivity to an individual
is important;
• Where & what you eat & drink...
• Where you normally shop (oversea?)...
• Where & how many time you holiday oversea & locally...
• What you drive...
• Where's your home address...
• How you decorate you home (no Balinese please)... & where you bought the home pieces from or who designed ...
• Where are your children schooling...
• What /how you wear at leisure, sport, work, dine, party...etc
• Who are your circle of friends...
• What preview/events do you get invited to...
• Cufflinks from Cartier, Tiffany or ....
• Your partner's handbag is a Hermes (Birkin), Bottega or ...
• 1st class or economy...
• What watches you wear at what scene/occasion... (ahh... this is just one of those only)

"I seem to notice that men are often not affected by the syndrome".
---------------------------------
but I don't think so... to be exclusive, it's not just a watch that tell the whole picture.

Anybody can share with me their lifestyle if I (a common fella) missed anything...
:D

Just another opinion...

If I were to put on a particular accessory or dress/clothes, I hope no one else would be wearing the same during dinner this evening or during this function.

SO, bottom line is you feel that if you wore a RM005 and walked into this glitzy function and saw someone wearing the same watch, you would be really depressed and feel that you no longer have an exclusive watch and that you will not stand out in a crowd and that no one will think that you have "made it" You are just run of the mill and a commoner......
You are wearing something that another person has as well. You are not one of a kind... never mind that the said watch costs as much as some people's homes!
The price for a one off timepiece is very high indeed and I doubt that 99% of the people who saw it would even know what it was...

Scin, you are a guy I persume? So I may be right in my presumption that guys do not really care... On the other hand, take this three examples, be truthful to your self, which of the three (choose only one please) situations would you rather be in? Tell it like it is bro... What does your heart say? :D

1. You arrive in a parking lot with your e36 m3. You see all around you guys with their udms but none of their rides are the ms.

2. You arrive in the same parking lot the next day with your same ride. You see the same guys with their udms, but this time they all have an e36 m3 each.

3. The following day, you go to the same parking lot with your same ride (yes your same old e36 m3). But on this day, the same guys are driving their e46 m3 csl.
