Has anybody installed a GPS tracking system to their car? Going back to Malaysia soon...and quite afraid that my car gets stolen.Thinking of buying this and fit to my car:Xexun GPS TK102-2 Tracker

Can be hardwired and hidden into your car. Price is not bad at around £60.Gives you peace of mind, can just call the unit and it will reply with a SMS indicating the car's location.

For your ease of mind, our e39 isn't a popular car with car thief.

Isn't popular, but did it ever happen? Why is that, harder to steal due to security features on our cars or there's no market for them thieving b*****ds?

Our e39 is considered as "no market value" for thieves. These are smart people, well syndicated and based on supply & demand, they would rather go for e60 and e90. Have not heard e39 being stolen for many years in Malaysia. Likewise in the UK, have you heard about e39 being stolen?? However if you are still concerned that your e39 530i maybe stolen in Malaysia, do get the neccesary security GPS system for a peace of mind.

Okay thanks, I'll think about it. Its still a cool device to install though.

So u need to plug in a GSM SIM card? and pay monthly subscription of RM10 to the telco? Can support any Telco? Not locked? Does it comes with backup battery inside?

Any telco with GSM. Just pop the simcard in. Also have a SD card slot to save the locations. The battery lasts 90 hours, but with the hard wired charger which connects directly with your cigarette lighter (underneath the console I guess), the battery is infinite. Basically if somebody steals the car and disconnect the car battery (assuming they didnt find the GPS unit hiding behind the dash somewhere) the unit will keep transmitting for 90 hours.

If I actually buy the unit I intend to install it just below my car GPS unit, behind the climate control as below - plenty of space there

Its actually not just for cars, you can just pop the unit inside your wife's bag and find out where she went haha

haywire, they rob your car instead of steal your car.

Damn thats more frightening. At least can call police and track the car afterwards...if I dont get killed first

I remember one guy got his finger cut off on Federal Highway by the robbers to activate his car a couple years ago...if i remember correctly it was a Benz with a fingertip recognition of some sort.

One guy said "Cut off his fingers!"

Another said "Cut off his hand just to be safe"

Luckily they only cut off his thumb I think.

If you're into this kinda device, there's one readily available in M'sia. Tramigo. But, its more expensive.
There's a Malaysia office in KL, after sales should not be a problem.

That looks really expensive. Looks like a deeper integration with the car system, can turn off the engine some more. Of course la expensive. How much are they?

I'm looking just for a basic unit, just so that I can track my car in case I ever need it. No need to shut off the engine and such.

I was quoted for ard Rm1500-1600 last yr for the basic version. To wire up the remote shutting of engine required a different control unit.

The basic one is just plug and play, insert a GSM card and youre on the go. Comes with a car adapter but you can hardwire to the car with a kit available from Tramigo.

RM1500 against RM300....I know which one I'm going for...
